Background checks and drug screening are not required for participation in all all Accelerated Career Training programs, but may be required for future employment.
The Accelerated Career Training candidate lives in the Charlotte area and is:
seeking to improve their economic status
unemployed or underemployed
a self-starter and highly motivated
seeking guidance to explore career path options with a career coach
actively seeking employment and/or career growth
able to adapt and commit to scheduled classes
By participating in an Accelerated Career Training program you are also required to attend Working Smart: Soft Skills for Workplace Success classes. The Working Smart course supports the Accelerated Career Training program course by going beyond technical skills, helping you master the soft skills that employers believe are critical to increasing your chances for employment, job success, and promotion. Working Smart is recognized and valued by Mecklenburg County employers.
If you have previously completed the Working Smart course and have a certificate, you will not need to complete the course again. Please provide us with a copy of your Working Smart Certificate to fulfill this requirement.
Central Piedmont's College and Career Readiness offers programs to develop students’ academic skills, earn a high school equivalency (GED or HiSET) or adult high school diploma, learn English as a second language (ESL), develop employability skills and participate in various work-based-learning experiences, or explore career and post-secondary educational opportunities. Many programs are free or at a very low cost for qualified participants.

Attend an Accelerated Career Training general information session.
Attend an Accelerated Career Training program-specific information session. Attending a program-specific Accelerated Career Training information session is mandatory for your application to be considered. Once you have viewed the general session, you are also required to attend an information session specific to your program of interest.
Submit an online Accelerated Career Training Program application by the deadline listed for your program of interest. We accept applications until the indicated deadline. Candidates are screened and selected on a rolling basis until all scholarships recipients are selected. We will email you an application status update one to two weeks after you apply.
REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma not required for training, but required for employment.
Medical screening, criminal background check, and drug screening required for entry into program.
