Biography

Command Sergeant Major Penn is an Army instructor for the JROTC program at Hopewell High School. Sergeant Major Penn enlisted in the Army in 1982. He trained as a combat medic and served tours of duty in the United States, Germany, Korea, Haiti and Saudi Arabia. He is a Desert Shield/ Desert Storm veteran. He has served in various leadership positions from squad leader, drill sergeant, and platoon sergeant, to First Sergeant and Command Sergeant Major.

He has held high-level staff positions in the Army Medical Department. He is a graduate of both the US Army First Sergeant and Command Sergeant Major Academy. In addition, he has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University Of Maryland University College. He has earned numerous awards and decorations, including the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters. His last assignment on active duty was Command Sergeant Major in charge of the Troop Command at Womack Army Medical Center, Fort Bragg, NC. Command Sergeant Major Penn retired in August of 2006 after 24 years of service in the Army.
