"Through leadership, advocacy and collaboration, school counselors promote equity and access to rigorous educational experiences for all students. School counselors support a safe learning environment and work to safeguard the human rights of all members of the school community (Sandhu, 2000) and address the needs of all students through culturally relevant prevention and intervention programs that are a part of a comprehensive school counseling program (Lee, 2001). The American School Counselor Association recommends a school-counselor-to student ratio of 1:250."
We are happy to discuss your concerns regarding your child. Please email your counselor with concerns. Due to the nature of our position, we are serving children and are often not in the office. If you would like to meet with your child’s counselor, please email her to set up an appointment to ensure that time is set aside in order to fully attend to your needs. If you have an emergency please contact the main office. We ask that you provide a conference request at least a week prior to the requested conference date.
Parent conferences are held on Wednesdays and Fridays during specific times (teacher planning blocks):
6th Grade – 12:45 & 2:30
7th Grade – 10:10am, 10:30am & 11:00am
8th Grade –
At CCA, we meet as teams. When a meeting is scheduled, you will meet with your child's core teachers (LA, Math, Sci & SS). If you would like to meet with an individual teacher, please contact the teacher directly.
In addition, we often correspond by email as teams. Do not be surprised if you see all of your child's teachers, counselor and administrator on email correspondence.
We look forward to getting to know all CCA students and helping them have successful and rewarding middle and high school years.
Parents and students are expected to monitor grades via Power School. Progress reports are sent home for all students. Students must pass Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Health & PE, and an Elective in order to be promoted to the next grade.
Eighth grade students need to meet CMS standards in order to be promoted.
The high school registration process begins in early spring. Students will receive specific information about this second semester from Ms. A. Williams, 8th grade School Counselor.
