The International Thespian Society is an honor society that celebrates excellence in theatre. Northwest High School Troupe #6252 received its charter on December 2015 from the Educational Theatre Association.
Membership in ITS is by invitation only. Prospective members must be active in the Theatre Guild Mainstage season to acquire enough points to receive an invitation. To be eligible for membership a student must have acquired at least ten thespian points, have a cumulative GPA of at least a 2.5, have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA in ALL theatre classes, and have been in at least two full-length mainstage productions.
ITS holds membership meetings (a requirement to remain in good standing) on the first Tuesday of each month. If we do not have school on the first Tuesday of the month, the meeting is automatically scheduled for the next Tuesday that falls on a school day.
One must be an active member of ITS to be eligible to serve as an officer. Additionally, officers must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have been involved in at least two mainstage productions the year of elections, and submit at least two teacher recommendations from teachers outside the Fine Arts Department.
*ITS Officers are also officers of the Theatre Guild and are required to attend all
Theatre Guild meetings and events.*
President – Presides at all meetings, appoints standing and special committees, and directs and supervise troupe activities.
Vice President – Presides in the absence of the president and is responsible for the induction of new members.
Business Manager – Keeps the troupe’s books and may act as the business manager for troupe productions at the discretion of the troupe director. The business manager also keeps the records of troupe meetings and attends to troupe correspondence.
Clerk – Keeps the point records of all activities: plays, production dates, casts, crews, and work accomplished as provided in the official point system.
Historian – Maintains ITS and Theatre Guild Social Media accounts under the supervision of the Troupe Director. Also keeps a scrapbook of news clippings, posters, programs, and other memorabilia of the year. Additionally, the Historian creates the end of the year slideshow at the annual awards banquet.
Master of Fun – Is in charge of facilitating theatre games during Theatre Guild and ITS meetings. The Master of Fun is also in charge of recruiting efforts for the Theatre Guild.
The troupe is the honors component of the school’s theatre program. Its purpose shall be the advancement of standards of excellence in theatre. More specifically, the troupe will encourage students to attain a better mastery of the theatre arts and will reward those who achieve it with induction into the troupe. Thespians achieving honor ranks and scholar distinctions shall receive recognition of their exemplary accomplishments.
Starting with the 2019 – 2020 school year, students must meet the following requirements to be invited to the Northwest High School International Thespian Society Troupe:
ITS Members who graduate in good standing and have a cumulative Grade Point Average of at least a 3.25 on a 4.0 scale will graduate as Honor Thespians. These seniors will be recognized and presented with honor cords that they will be able to wear during graduation.
Inducted Thespians of Troupe 6252 are expected to participate in extra theatre advocacy events. Such events include, but are not limited to: attending athletic events and performing arts concerts to support fellow Northwest students, attending area high school shows, attending recruiting events (Freshman Orientation, Viking Voyage, CMCSS All-District Theatre Festival, etc.).
