Google Slides / Getting Started with Google Slides

Create new slides

If you know you are going to collaborate on a slide presentation before you start work on the slides, you can create it from scratch in Google Slides. Once you have created a new presentation, you can add content and name the presentation as required.

Create a slide presentation

To create a new slide presentation in Google Drive:

  • Ensure you are signed into Google Drive

  • Click on the New button on the left-hand side of the screen 

  • Choose Google Slides

To create a new presentation from within an open document:

  • Click on the File menu

  • Choose New

  • Choose Presentation

The new presentation will open in a new tab or browser window, depending on your browser.

Name a presentation

Once you've created your presentation, and before you start adding text, it’s good practice to set a name for the file, so that it isn’t saved as "Untitled" or the text you enter onto the title slide.
