"Don't follow your dreams, chase them!"
Dear Parents/Carers,
We hope you have had a lovely week - the weather is certainly looking a lot warmer!
On Monday, Year 6 loved their visit to Maidstone Police College. They thoroughly enjoyed learning about crime scene investigations, online safety, money laundering and cyber crimes - they even met the horse and dogs too. All of their pictures are on twitter - please have a look!
On Tuesday, Doves class enjoyed reading traditional tales and looking closely at the characters in the story. They did some paintings of their favourite scenes and characters.
On Wednesday, it was Celebration Assembly. Congratulations to our Stars of the Week, Maths Champions and Times Table Rock Stars! It is clear that you've all been working extremely hard. In addition to this, Finches had some water fun with DPD who helped with gathering water for the mud slide so that the children could slide down very speedily. Blackbirds also enjoyed their time in the forest this week. They took it in turns to swing, build a home for the rabbits using sticks and grass and looked for bugs under the logs.
On Thursday, Kingfishers delivered their first class assembly celebrating their learning throughout the term. Thank you to all the parents who attended and well done to the children - you were incredible! In addition, Woodpeckers were rehearsing their public speaking. They discussed effective features of speeches and ensured they included these in their fantastic performances.
Today we had a Careers Fair. The children all had the opportunity to visit the KS2 Hall where they could speak to all the volunteers about their different careers. The children had so many questions and were absolutely buzzing about this opportunity.
In the afternoon, the children in EYFS picked carrots and beetroot today from their school allotment. They washed their vegetables and tasted the carrots. They also cooked the beetroot and tried some too. The children were thrilled to try the food that they had been growing! In addition, the children across the school participated in a live session associated with volcanoes that was led by Lyfta. All children were enthusiastic about their sessions. Thank you to Lyfta for organising this fantastic event. It is a fantastic online resource that we can not wait to use throughout our teaching from September.
Have a relaxing weekend and enjoy the weather,
Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team

Local Offer
The Local Offer is an online hub that lets young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their parents and carers know what services are out there for them, and how they can access them.
Here you can find information and advice on the services available in and outside of Medway, including around education, health and social care.
https://www.medway.gov.uk/localoffer
Alongside this, please speak to your child's class teacher or Mrs Jackson (Inclusion Leader) if you have any concerns or questions.
Congratulations!
Personal Achievement
Well done to Yuvraj who has won two trophies and a medal at his Under 7s Football Club.
He achieved one trophy for the most improved player of the year, one trophy for being part of the Under 7s Football Club and a medal for the tournament he took part in with his club on Saturday playing 5 games in one day!
Thank you for sharing this with us - we are so proud of you too!

Key Messages
Peanuts
A reminder that peanut butter should not be provided for your children in their sandwiches as there is a severe nut allergy within the Maundene community and we need to ensure everyone is safe.
This also includes any nut-based chocolate bars too.
Parent Volunteers
We are looking to enhance our assemblies further by inviting members of our diverse community in to speak to the children about their cultures and religions.
If you are interested please email the school office.
Snack
Children in EYFS and KS1 are provided with fruit each day. When the children get into KS2, they can bring their own snacks in for break time. Please remember that this must be a piece of fruit or vegetable.

Oracy
At Maundene, we believe that Oracy is fundamental to the learning process and children's development.
Oracy is our ability to communicate effectively using spoken language. It is the ability to speak eloquently, articulate ideas and thoughts, influence through talking, listen to others and have the confidence to express your views. These are all skills that support success in both learning and life beyond school.
Therefore, we have decided that we are going to add an Oracy task in our weekly newsletter. This is an optional activity but it is being provided to encourage you and your child to discuss an image, scenario, quote or video each week. The four different strands of Oracy are provided below with key skills for your children to focus on when they are participating in a discussion with you at home.
Oracy Task
Discuss the following about the image above:
What is your favourite food?
What do you like about it?
Can you describe how it tastes?
Why is important to have a balanced diet?
I believe…
In my opinion…
I like...
I know this because…
The first reason…
I love...
Another reason being…
My favourite...
It must be considered…
In support of this…
