The children are working hard and doing a great job so far!

NOTE: Please send an extra pair of mittens with your child each day. They often have to wear mittens that are wet by second recess. Spare pants and socks are good to have as well. These could be left in a bag on their hook.

Writing: Non-Fiction
We continue to explore the special features of non-fiction text this week, and by the end of the week we will have chosen an animal to research and gather information on in preparation for our non-fiction book making!
Fundations: Unit 6 - Week 2 (Unit test Friday. Review last weeks words and this weeks words in preparation for the unit test.)
Focus: Vowel-Consonant-e syllable (make - the first vowel is long, the e is silent)
The v-e (vowel-consonant-e) syllable can be combined with other syllables to make multisyllabic words.
We will learn the reading and spelling procedures for two-syllable words.
'ive' is the exception to the v-e syllable (example: give, active, olive...)
The vowel 'u' has two sounds (as in mule and rule)
's' can say /z/ when between two vowels (as in rose and wise)
THIS WEEKS READING RESPONSE: (Sorry this one is posted late! I had forgotten to add it!)
Find three V - E words
Find two compound words (two smaller words put together to make a new, longer word)
Have a great week everyone!
Kathy

HOMEWORK
Once each week I would like the children to give a response to just one book of their choice that they have read for homework during the week. Each week the response for the week will be posted here on our site. There will be a dedicated blue duo-tang for the responses placed inside their homework scribblers. Please make sure the date is filled in for each week's response. Thank you!
This week's reading response: Who is the main character in the story you read? Tell me one thing about this character.
Have a lovely week everyone!
Kathy
