There are no new spellings for this week. Feel free to review! :) We will continue with our regular class work, with a little more time in the afternoons to play some games (many are connected to our math program) and enjoy a few more crafts!

Mental math strategies . Main Focus: Doubles +1 (Neighbors), Make it 10 (adding 9 to a number), Doubles +2 (almost neighbors)
Counting back (-1,-2.-3), Parts of 10 for subtraction, Doubles for subtraction
representing and describing numbers to 100
Reading
We continue to make connections and study story elements (setting, characters, problem, conclusion). We will also be noticing how a story flows as we enjoy our read alouds (beginning, middle, ending).
Writing: Narrative - We will continue with these writing topics.

Spellings: know, knew, often, once, always (bonus word 'new')
Math (we continue with...)
Count forward by 10s from different starting points (1, 11, 21... 6, 16, 26....)
Doubles plus 1 (Neighbors - These numbers live right beside each other on the number line) - Think doubles! 6+6 =12, so 6+7 is the same as 6+6 plus 1 more!
Doubles plus 2 (ALMOST Neighbors - These numbers ALMOST live right beside each other on the number line, ex: 5+7 has just one number in between separating them) - Think: If you have 5+7, take 1 from the 7 and put it with the 5. Now you have 6+6, so just double the number in the middle! OR you can double the smallest number (5) and add 2 more!

Focus: Strong beginnings, Interesting and relevant detail, bringing our characters to life through dialogue and action, word choice, showing rather than telling how the character feels....There are a lot of balls in the air with writing!
