Home/Communication bags are sent home every Tuesday (Take Home Tuesdays!) and should travel back and forth each day. I will check it daily, please do the same:)
Reading: Four books (typically) will be inside the home bag on Tuesday, one for each night of the week. All books are to be returned the following Monday. Please fill out the Reading Log and indicate whether your child found the text E (easy), JR (just right), or H (hard). The books will usually start out easy until I fine-tune your child’s independent reading level. Please let me know if they are too easy or too difficult in the log.
Also, do not feel confined to reading only the books I send home! Any exposure to books supports their reading journey. A love for reading requires building a student’s confidence and giving readers positive experiences with many different books.
Homework: is a time to have a quick review of concepts, practice sound patterns in new words for the week, and have some reading time at home (5-10 minutes each night is a great starting point, then moving up to 15 minutes approximately). This is not meant to be frustrating for your child. Pleases contact me if this is the case.
Math: Knowing Math Facts tremendously supports the grade 2 Math curriculum, spending a few minutes nightly to review these would be appreciated as well. Also, conversing about money (1, 5, 10, 25 cents) when shopping is a great way for students to see math in the real world!
