Practice writing their name with the first letter upper case and the rest lower case. Many students are able to write names in all caps, and are sometimes reluctant to make the change.
Practice writing the numbers 1-10. and counting to 10 in French forward and back. You can write the numbers for them or show them a calendar.
Draw, colour, and name shapes. See the "Songs and Themes" page for French words for these if you need to :)
Practice cutting by making some crafts!
Make AB and ABC patterns out of just about anything.

January and later, they should be reading parts of the little French booklets I send home. Take some with you for extended absence.
January and later, they should be counting, but also be able to recognize which symbol belongs to each number. So they could count item and then write the number associated with the total counted, up to 10.
