SUFFIXES
In Unit 4, students will learn the sounds of the suffixes below as well as when to add them to words and how to mark them. Scroll down to see some examples of what we will learn about each of these suffixes!
Suffixes -s and -es make words plural or can be added to verbs (action words).
The suffix -ing shows an action is happening now. It sounds just like the "ing" glued sound.
Suffixes -er and -est are used to make comparisons.
The suffixes -ed shows an action that happened in the past.
It can make 3 different sounds.
How to mark words with suffixes
Circle the suffix. If there is an "ed" suffix, mark the sound it makes above.
Scoop the base word.
Mark the sound of the vowel. Is it long or short?
Mark the type of syllable underneath.
