Dear Parents and Carers,
What a fantastic week! It has been a pleasure walking around the school, seeing pupils coming to the end of their unit and seeing the build-up to their published outcome.
I'm also pleased to say that on Thursday, an internal review of the school was conducted by headteachers and executive leaders from across the partnership. Those children that spoke to visiting adults showed our core values that we promote so heavily in school. I am therefore proud to say that the result was very positive and provided us with reflections to help us develop further.
As always, thank you for your continued efforts in moving our school from strength to strength.
Best wishes,
Kate Taylor
Headteacher

Parent and Child: Breakfast and Books.
'Come join us and share a book and some refreshments with your child.'
Further details of this event will be released via School Comms.
This week, in Explorers Class, we have enjoyed spotting and using our sounds to read and write. We have loved spending some mornings inside and outside doing this! We have also been creating stories and orally retelling them in our story telling boat.
In Inventors Class, we have been busy measuring objects. To begin with, we have estimated the length of an object and then afterwards, measured it to see if our estimation was accurate or not.
This week, in our maths, Year 3 have used manipulatives to deepen our our understanding of division. We have learnt that remainders occur when the dividend cannot be divided equally by the divisor. Through coaching one-another, we were then able to check if we had the same answer at the end.
In our English, we have then applied our oracy skills to recite our written poems. We explored how to project our voices and change the tone depending on the purpose of our words and phrases.
This week, Earhart, Sharman and Rhodes have been successful in using their geographical knowledge and skills to identify human and physical features of aerial photographs, map reading and identifying lines of longitude and latitude to read coordinates.
In addition, the children have been busily using concrete resources to aid their conceptual understanding of division, before applying their skills in a written formal method. They then have used the inverse of multiplication to challenge themselves in proving that their answers are correct.
This week, Year 5 have learnt how to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator. In order to do this, we needed to use our previous learning of converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers.
In our English, we started the first of our series of diary extracts that were inspired by the protagonist, Parvana, from our core text, 'The Breadwinner'.
This week, Year 6 have been researching key figures in the Civil Rights Movements. They investigated the lives and impact of Martin Luther King Jr, Malcolm X and Lyndon B. Johnson. After their research, they compared the different views and approaches of these key leaders on the journey towards racial equality.
In our Science, we have continued to learn about how light travels. Over the last few weeks, we have learnt that light travels in straight lines and that the opacity of an object determines the quality of shadow. Through covering the table with fabric, we were able to create a dark space to test out different shadows.
This week, in Edison Class, we have been practising our touch typing skills to help us when we produce our English outcomes.
Jackson Class have been working diligently when typing their letter to a member of parliament. Our letter aims to encourage the MP to only support businesses who sell sustainable products.
Henson Class have been building our skills in paper curling for art this week, this task has also aided in building on our fine motor skills.
We are pleased to announce that we will be holding another careers fair on the summer term. This will be a fantastic opportunity for the children to see different jobs in action and to learn about the skills and knowledge they will need to have successful careers in the future.
We are looking for volunteers to share their job role at the careers fair. If you feel this is something you would like to be involved in, we would love to accommodate you. Register your interest using this form:
