Dear Parents and Carers,

This week, I had the pleasure of welcoming Mr. Carpenter and other leaders from the Partnership into our school. Their visit built upon our learning in school on Racism and Homophobia. During the day, the team observed a range of lessons and an assembly that had a focus on Equality and Diversity.

I am pleased to say that the visit was a very positive one. When speaking with pupils, we found that they were very articulate in their responses about the learning that has been (and continues to) take place.

Next week, I look forwards to celebrating the Queen's Jubilee on the school field. For this, we invite you to bring a picnic and a rug at 12:30pm, where the PTA will also serve hot drinks.

Best wishes,
Kate Taylor
Headteacher

Last Day of Term.

EYFS and KS1

Explorers have been busy verbally retelling and creating their own stories this week. They have been using interesting sentence openers and conjunctions to add detail and variety to their stories.

This week, Inventors have been busy researching about endangered sea creatures. We have then used that information to create our own fact-files. Additionally, in our mathematics learning, we have been finding half and quarter of objects.

Year 3

Year 3 has enjoyed their weekly visit from Mrs. Shackton, who has been teaching us how to play the ocarina.

With Mrs. Shackton's support and guidance, we have been able to learn the song 'E-G-B-G's' which you can hear by visiting the QR code here.

Year 4

This week, Earhart, Sharman and Rhodes have been busily writing a diary entry, from August's perspective, ready for publishing next week. The children have thoroughly enjoyed expressing themselves, by really stepping into the shoes of the character to express his thoughts and emotions based on how he has been unfairly treated and discriminated against for having a facial deformity and being perceived as different. The children will be acting as authors to edit and publish their final English outcome.

Year 5

Year 5 have planned and started to write their advice columns this week. We have put ourselves into the shoes of both a worried friend asking for advice and an expert who is supporting the individual. Our focus has been to include effective emotive language to ensure the reader feels a certain emotion. Also, we have been able to apply our learning of a range of sentence structures for impact.

In RSE this week, we have learnt about human rights. In class, we have discussed what the basic human rights are and why they are important. After our class discussions, we reflected on why human rights are important and what the world would be like without them.

Year 6

This week, Year 6 have focused on writing an explanation text about an invention of their own creation. These innovations were designed to tackle problems that the children identified in the world. They have worked collaboratively to edit their explanations so that they include all of the features of the text type.

Delce Education Centre (DEC)

This week, Edison class returned to Curly's Farm and learned how to take care of different kinds of poultry. We spent time collecting eggs and washing them. We were even lucky enough to take a carton of eggs home with us.

Equality and Diversity

We are pleased to announce that we will be holding another careers fair on the summer term. This will be a fantastic opportunity for the children to see different jobs in action and to learn about the skills and knowledge they will need to have successful careers in the future.

We are looking for volunteers to share their job role at the careers fair. If you feel this is something you would like to be involved in, we would love to accommodate you. Register your interest using this form:

Attendance Matters

Well done to Explorers, Rhodes, Darwin and Edison classes for winning the attendance dinosaurs this week.

Our whole school attendance target is: 96%. This week, we achieved 90.3%
