Delce Academy News
Friday 1st April 2022

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a brilliant end to our Spring term. I am sure that you will all join me in congratulating the pupils for all they have achieved over the last six weeks. This week specifically, our Year 6 cohort have shown all of our core values in their approach to their assessment week. The children's hard-work, along with the teaching team's dedication has really shone through. In the other year groups, the children have completed their final published outcomes and which can be seen in the photos below - don't they look amazing?!

I am very proud of our children's response to our work on Racist and Homophobic language. We have held three assemblies to hear the children's thoughts and help them understand the impact of their words on others. We discussed how to 'Live our values' through words and actions. One children said, 'We should check the person is ok as well as tell an adult what has happened' We will continue to keep this work as a priority for the new term.

Finally, I would like to wish everyone a safe and relaxing Easter break and look forward to welcoming you back on 19th April.

Best wishes, Kate Taylor Headteacher

Last Day of Spring 2

'Children to return on Tuesday 19th April'

EYFS and KS1

Explorers have had a fantastic final week of term. We are very proud of our 'Save the Bees' published board. Additionally, through using the outdoor area, we consolidated our maths learning from this term with part whole models and recorded them as number sentences.

Inventors have had a busy end of term week, we have published our 'Grandad's Giant Secret' board and performed an assembly to Wright class explaining our learning from our history journey. Together we have worked hard to produce some lovely work and are looking forward to the Summer Term after the Easter break.

Year 3

What a term it has been! To wrap up this week, Year 3 have finished their Science experiments with plant growth, water transportation and runner beans. Along with that, they have published some outstanding diary entries.

As you can see from our photo, the classrooms have been updated to show the 'Zones of Regulation'. The children have been discussing this with adults in school and are becoming more aware of which 'Zones' relate to which emotions as they go through their day and what tools they can use to help them if needed.

Year 4

This week, Earhart, Sharman and Rhodes have been busily working hard to produce some descriptive and rhyming poetry. They have published their learning with great pride and are delighted to see their learning on display.

In addition, the children enjoyed creating rainforest landscapes in the style of John Dyer to accompany their poetry.

Year 5

Year 5 have worked tremendously hard this term in all of their subject areas. In the photo, you can see their final outcomes on display for the school to see! It is inspired by Polly Ho-Yen's novel, 'The Boy in The Tower'.

Year 6

Year 6's positive attitude, hard-work and perseverance cannot be understated throughout the last week. They have approached the assessment week with such brilliance and as a result have had amazing outcomes. Mr. Adekoya, Mr. Bristow and Ms. Wallace are all incredibly proud of them.

If this was not enough, Year 6 have completed their published outcomes in Art and in English to complete our unit on racism and segregation.

Delce Education Centre (DEC)

Edison Class have completed their publishing in English where they have created their own ending for a well known fairy tale. Their characters have shown perseverance and flexible thinking in order to create more positive outcome.

Jackson Class have taken inspiration from textile artist Caroline Bell and created our own printed leaf pattern cushions. We tried very hard and independently sewed the edges. We are so proud of our final outcome.

Henson class have completed their published outcomes for this term. We have written our own newspaper articles and created self portraits based on the theme of gender stereotypes. We have also been exploring women's rights and comparing these to the rights women had in Ancient Greece. I am extremely proud of all their hard work this term.

Equality and Diversity

We are pleased to announce that we will be holding another careers fair on the summer term. This will be a fantastic opportunity for the children to see different jobs in action and to learn about the skills and knowledge they will need to have successful careers in the future.

We are looking for volunteers to share their job role at the careers fair. If you feel this is something you would like to be involved in, we would love to accommodate you. Register your interest using this form:

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

Delce Academy PTA will be running a tombola for Picnic Hampers for the May-Day bank holiday weekend. On Friday 22nd April the children can come to school in their own clothes in exchange for an item of food that could be used in a picnic hamper—items such as crackers, breadsticks, cakes, biscuits, crisps, drink bottles/cartons, chutneys or chocolates.

Please do not send in perishables or items that need chilled storage. Tickets (£1 per entry) will go on sale Friday 22nd April through the Gateway app and on the playground, and winners will be drawn and announced Friday 29th April. Hampers will go home Friday 29th April.
