Dear Parents and Carers,
Unfortunately, due to a leg injury whilst walking the dog, I have dearly missed seeing the children and yourselves on the gates this week. I have heard wonderful things about the excellent implementation of 'Zones of Regulation' and our visiting poet to Year 4. I look forward to being able to see and hear more soon, once healed.
During the week, I have conducted two assemblies with the children on racism and homophobia. These assemblies are of great importance to us in helping develop a supportive and tolerant community that is accepting of all differences and beliefs. As a result, in the assembly, I have reminded the children that any homophobic or racist language will dealt with swiftly and severely in collaboration with yourselves and our Senior Leadership Team. Every one should feel safe and feel they belong in our community. For your information, our policy can be found on the website (click here).
If you have any questions or queries regarding this, please do not hesitate to contact me or other leaders via the office, email or in-person.
Best wishes,
Kate Taylor

Last Day of Spring 2
'Children to return on Tuesday 19th April'
This week, Explorers Class have been learning about the role of a bee keeper and the importance of flowers to bees.
In Maths, we have been learning our number bonds to 10 using Numicon and tens frames. Additionally, we have been working collaboratively in the garden too!
This week, Inventors Class have been out for an observational walk to look for signs of spring.
We listened to bird song and discovered a range of flowers in the school grounds. We then came back to class to discuss our findings.
This week, in Year 3, we have been building on our knowledge of blogs. Working collaboratively, we discussed the purpose, audience and tone of a blog which was then used when we wrote one together as a class. Through sharing large flip-chart pads, along with some marker pens, we put ourselves in the shoes of Hannah, the main character in our core text.
In addition to this, Year 3 have also looked at ‘The Zones of Regulation’. Through reflecting on the 'zone' that we are in, we are able to use toolkits to adjust our mindset, so that we are ready to learn.
Year 4 have had an amazing week! We were lucky enough to have the poet Steve Tasane come and deliver a poetry workshop. We looked at onomatopoeia and the beats in a rhyming poem. Year 4 then used their new poetry knowledge to complete a poem about the explorer Matthew Henson.
This week, in Year 5, we used our prior knowledge to write a witness statement linked to our core text "Boy in the Tower".
In Maths, we have applied our mathematical skills to every day problems. We have explored the importance of finding a good deal in real life situations whilst finding fractions of amounts.
Finally, in Curriculum, we planned a manifesto around Ancient Greeks and gender equality, we are looking forward to writing them next week.
This week, Year 6 have been scientists as they explored the concept of reflection and how to create fully functional circuits.
We learnt how reflections can change, although light always travels in a straight line. Additionally, we discovered that for electricity to flow we need a complete circuit and that the more components that are built into the circuit the dimmer the bulbs will be.
This week, Edison Class discussed what it means to have flexible thinking. We brainstormed what the term means to each of us and shared situations where we have used flexible thinking in our daily lives.
This week, Jackson Class were proud to receive a response from Lord Goldsmith in relation to our persuasive letter about deforestation in Spring 1.
This week, in Henson Class, we have explored relative clauses and the differences between direct and indirect speech. In our art, we have also been discussing and creating words and slogan to promote gender equality.
We are pleased to announce that we will be holding another careers fair on the summer term. This will be a fantastic opportunity for the children to see different jobs in action and to learn about the skills and knowledge they will need to have successful careers in the future.
We are looking for volunteers to share their job role at the careers fair. If you feel this is something you would like to be involved in, we would love to accommodate you. Register your interest using this form:

Board Game Donations
The girls in Year 6, who requested board game donations would like to say a massive thank you to everybody who were able to help out. They have been overwhelmed with the contributions and are now running the club regularly at lunchtimes.
Playground Equipment
As shared earlier, during our Christmas concerts we raised funds to buy new playground equipment of the playgrounds.
We met with the Junior Leadership Team to see which equipment the children would like in the playground. Next, we will be purchasing this equipment to ensure all children have different activities in the playground.
Well done to Explorers, Dyson, Dickens and Edison classes for winning the attendance dinosaurs this week.
