The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) requires that "all persons who received their Instructional I or Vocational Instructional I certificate...must present evidence of having successfully completed a PDE-approved induction program in order to qualify for an Instructional II or Vocational Instructional II certificate. Individuals holding Educational Specialist I certificates...must also complete a PDE-approved induction program." The CLIU provides this opportunity to all certified employees upon hire, and there are two Canvas cohorts per school year, one in the fall and one in the spring. Each cohort spans four consecutive months.
Additionally, the CLIU maintains its own Induction Plan to ensure that all certified New Hires, regardless of certificate level, receive the pertinent information to meet success within the SPS programs by completing one full calendar year of the Mentor/Scholar Induction Program. New employees ("Scholars") will be paired up with veteran CLIU employees ("Mentors"), and they will be required to complete an Induction Checklist and Goal to Growth Plan throughout the course of one full calendar year. Monthly meetings and weekly check-ins are also a requirement of the Induction Program.
