  This year marks the 100th anniversary of Clint ISD. Horizon High School hosted the first convocation since 2019, bringing together all campuses from the district.

   Throughout this past century, Clint teachers continue to thrive in their school spirit during convocation. Each school made a grand entrance using props such as pom poms, and megaphones, representing their colors to compete for the district spirit stick. 

   “I have been part of these convocations for the past 25 years. This year was like no other. Everyone's energy and school pride was at an all time high. Since the moment we stepped into the gym it was electrifying! Definitely the best one yet,” Coach Michelle Hernandez said. 

   Host Patti Diaz from Power 102.1 shared inspiring words to all, expressing the capability that each teacher holds. As well as motivational guest speaker Dr. Zelaya who shared his own experience as an immigrant coming to schools in the United States.

   “I personally felt touched by Dr. Zelaya’s speech because as an ESL teacher it hit home with being able to build culture and relationship with the kids. It’s all about getting them to buy into what you are doing so I appreciate his message and it’s something I’m bringing into the school year,” Mrs. Venice Chavez said.

   Horizon is evolving as this year welcomes new administrators such as principal Roberto Trejo, as well as assistant principals, counselors, and teachers. All coming with innovative ideas to support and improve the campus.

   “It’s a personal goal of mine to highlight everything that's happening at Horizon because we’re going to bring a new level of energy. We made scorpion stingers for the teachers and asked for them to dress in black and we told them no one is going to outshine us in our school. I believe that people want to be a part of a team and that’s what we created,” Trejo said.

   Clint students make a return July 24th, 2023 to their new and improved campuses, getting a feel of this thrilling upcoming year.
