Students faced teachers during the basketball game hosted by the class of 2023 on April 14th, 2023.The final score was 49-50, and teachers took the win.
Taking this idea and making it true was not easy but the class sponsors, Mrs. Picazo and Ms.Arreola along with the officers made it all possible. The event was a success, at full capacity and the class was able to fundraise by selling two dollar tickets.
“The hardest part was trying to convince the teachers and students to play. Some were saying “I'm not in good condition” but they still helped out. It was a little bit hectic because we thought not a lot of students were going but at the end a lot showed up and it was great,” Picazo said.
School Spirit is the one thing that everyone shares. Students and teachers coming together dedicating their time to a fun sport.
“I went to the student- teacher basketball game to support the students,” Esmeralda Martinez (11) said. “I feel like they needed all the support they could get from the student section,” Martinez said.
The team, composed of ten teachers, dominated the court during the game. Preparing by using good communication and encouragement from other teachers.
“It was awesome and everyone got along very well, no one was crying about playing time or shooting the basket. We shared the ball and everyone had equal rights on the team,” Wheaton said.
Even though the student team composed of Mathew Soto, Oliver Amezquita, Cristian Quijas, Alicia Ochoa, Derek Ortiz, Ashley Soliz, Eli Duarte, Ian Pinon, Allan Urbina and Jose Velazquez lost, the final score was very close for both teams.
“My first initial thought when playing against the teachers was that it was going to be an easy game, but once we started playing and I saw how physical they were I knew it was going to be competitive,” Cristian Quijas (12) said.
