Article by: Cindy Herrera
National Technical Honor Society is known for rewarding excellence, and helping students reach their goals. On April 4th, 2023 the club held a ceremony to honor the students for doing their best and help them further their education and advance their own career as well as introducing new members to the chapter.
The NTHS officers Danna Herrera, Israel Martinez, Felix Castanon, Rebecca Ojeda and other members sofia rodriguez ,mia moreno, jazmin martinez lit the candles that represent the values of the organization which include skill, honesty, service, responsibility, scholarship, citizenship and leadership. They read a script at the ceremony to recognize and to honor the students for their success during this whole year. Soon after all of the members recite the pledge.
“During the ceremony I felt accomplished and proud of what society had done throughout the school year as well as with how we were able to give back to the community,” Martinez said.
The sponsors for the NTHS club are Nicholas Carey, Lydia Rivas, and Mario Tafoya. Scorpions contributed to different community service and fundraisers during the year.
“We did the books for kindergarteners so we handed all those out. We did the hungry hippos as a fundraiser so we were successful. We actually had 40 kids this year which is one of our biggest ones so I think this whole year has been very successful,” Carey said.
Some members have said NTHS has helped them grow more and be better with themselves, it also helped them communicate better with people.
“I feel like I've been better myself as a person and I learned to work better with people,” junior Victoria Hernandez said.
Aside from contributing to the community, members are able to get a double strand honor cord to wear during graduation. The cord represents their commitment to Horizon and the community.
”It feels great to be part of the club because we get better scholarships and job opportunities as well,” junior Marissa Herrera said.
