Marimba Concert

The month of August started with an amazing celebration of Clifton talent with an informal marimba concert that was held in the Expressive Arts Theatre.

The Grade 6 & 7 Clifton Marimba bands were joined on stage by the Treverton Preparatory Marimba Band.

The evening proved to be a wonderful opportunity for the Clifton marimba bands to showcase their brand-new repertoire of songs and to share in the love of music with their guests from Treverton. We were extremely happy to have Mrs Nikki Purdon and her group of 12 marimba players come and share with us what they have been up to.

The evening not only allowed the various bands to “strut their stuff”, but also provided an opportunity for an informal collaboration between the musicians from the two schools.

A further highlight of the evening was an impromptu lesson when a number of audience members were invited on stage to perform alongside the marimba players. Mr Chapatha put on an impressive show in getting his new ‘students’ to produce a rather moving rendition of ‘Shosholoza’.

Our children were so appreciative of the opportunity to share their talents with the community and look forward to hosting many more of these informal concerts in the future.
