Project Overview

Why we shortened it

Our robotics lab is only so big, so when we saw the conveyor belt, we knew it wouldn't be a good fit in our lab.

Our Goal

Shorten the conveyor belt with the help of the class so it could fit in the robotics lab.

Safety

#1 Priority!

Always wear safety glasses

Wear gloves while touching the conveyor belt

Wear masks when welding

Stay away from the forklift when it is moving

Tools

Welding Tools

Used to connect the two halves of the cut conveyor belt.

Forklift

Used to lift the conveyor belt when it was cut.

Open Ended Wrench

Used to remove bolts.

Air Cut-Off Tool

Used to cut the conveyor belt.

Socket Wrench

Used to make removing bolts easier/reduces wrist strain.

Rubber Mallet

Used to remove the rollers out of the coneyor belt.

Speed Square

Used to align the conveyor belt before we welded it back.

This project is still a work in progress, so more stages will show up here later as they are completed.

Tension, Alignment, & Spacing Examples

Tension

The belt of the conveyor must be tight enough to actually move smoothly.

Alignment

All the bolts need to be aligned so that the conveyor belt receives the load bearing support to stay together.

Spacing

The rollers need to be exactly the same amount of space apart.

Fastener Used Example

  • Hexagonal Head Bolt
  • This bolt holds a brown metal bracket that the metal sides of the coneyor belt screws into
  • Washers help distribute force
  • Very tight
