Mrs. Lemmon
School Counselor

helping you find sweet solutions for sour situations

Hello, Panther Families!

My name is Mrs. Lemmon. I am so happy to say that I get to be your school counselor! As the school counselor, my mission is to provide a positive and safe environment that will allow my students to succeed in their overall academic, social/personal, and career development.

As you progress through the school year, I will assist you in building the skills you need to overcome concerns, situations, or emotions that may overwhelm you. I am here to advocate for you and for your success. I also collaborate with parents, teachers, and the community in order to make a positive impact while create lasting relationships.

Why would a student need a counselor?

A student may come to see me if they need to build stronger skills in

  • Managing emotions

  • Making friends

  • Learning

  • Problem-solving

  • Resolving conflicts

  • Overcoming worries and fears

  • Appropriate behaviors

During the year, I will provide classroom lessons. I will incorporate skills from our Social Emotional Learning program, Second Step. We will also focus on Character Education. You won't just see me in a classroom setting. I also work with small groups and individual students.

Parents, Teachers, and students can request to see the School Counselor for a variety of reasons.

Here are the ways you can meet with me:

  • Self referral-- complete the virtual check-in form, drop a note by my office, or catch me in the hallways

  • Teacher Referral--Your teacher may tell me they would like for me to see you, or you can tell your teacher you need to see me and they will contact me.

  • Administrative Referral-- Mrs. Pagan, Mrs. Surratt or Mr. Hamrick may ask for us to chat.

  • Counselor Request--I may come and get you from class to talk about different things.

  • Parent Referral--Your parents may contact me.

It should never be viewed negatively or as a punishment when visiting the counselor. We are here to listen, love, support, and stay with you through tough moments.

My office is a safe place to spill the tea.

About me

"Always know that the world is a better place with YOU in it."

Hello, Hello!

My name is Mrs. Lemmon. This is my 5th year as a school counselor. Each day, I fall more and more in love with my job. I can't wait to work with you!

I graduated from Appalachian State University with a professional writing degree and a minor in psychology. Go Neers! Writing is a therapeutic outlet for me. I enjoy everything from technical to creative writing. My true passion is grant writing, research, and data.. lots of data. I am a very data-driven counselor.

I achieved my Master's degree in Professional School Counseling from GWU. It is CACREP accredited, meaning the program's content and quality have been evaluated and meet strict, consistent standards set by the profession. I was inducted into Chi Sigma Iota, the professional academic honor society for counseling students, counselor educators, and professional counselors. I am a member of the American School Counselor Association and a member of NC School Counselor Association. I am constantly looking for opportunities to further my education and grow in my career. This year, my focus is on restorative practices, mindfulness, diversity and inclusion, as well as breaking the stigma on mental health. Recently, I became an Ambassador for SCUTA, a time analysis program for school counseling. It combines my two passions: counseling and data.

I am a mother of two, a daughter named Kate and a son named Andrew. We have a 3 dogs. A sweet puppy named Carly, and sibling Great Pyrenees's named Josie and Deacon. I love hiking trails in the mountains, a good coffee shop, writing, and any activity outdoors. My favorite color is purple. I have a small ( that's not true.. I am a die hard fan) obsession with the Harry Potter series. I collect turtles and vintage glass. My daughter and I make vintage candles - a habit picked up during the first wave of the pandemic. And fun fact about me, I have had brain surgery!

I love expressive arts/ play therapy and will try to find ways of implementing these practices into my counseling techniques. I firmly believe we all have a unique strength that empowers us to do amazing things. I can't wait to work together to find yours!

Resources

Parents,
Together, we can help promote self-awareness , encourage academic success, and empower our students to reach their full potential. My goal is to provide the students with tools to overcome obstacles and to build stronger skills in managing emotions, behaviors, and mindsets. I want my students to know that if they put their mind to it, they can do anything.
