This is an exciting year! The students will be learning how to read, write, solve math problems! Just as important as academics, if not more is the need for the children to develop self-esteem, responsibility, and social skills. It is important for each child to feel confident about themselves and the choices that they make. I also hope to provide a classroom environment where the children feel comfortable and take ownership...where they are encouraged to take risks and where they will experience success and know that it's okay to make mistakes. It is important that each boy and girl feel happy about themselves and confident in the choices that they make. We will spend much of our time in 1st grade working together as a cohesive group, resolving conflicts in a positive way and creating a safe, caring and successful classroom environment.

ClassDojo is a behavior management tool and communication app for the classroom. Each student has a profile - complete with their own avatar – to which teachers can assign positive and negative points (or “dojos”) throughout the day. It connects teachers, parents and students to share student progress throughout the school day. ClassDojo encourages parents and teachers to work together as a team and share in the classroom experience.
