Mickle Families,
We are looking forward to seeing many of you at the upcoming quarter three parent/teacher conferences. More information about this event can be found in this newsletter and a separate email was sent out earlier this week. Additionally please be watching for student progress reports which will be sent out in the afternoon on Friday, February 7. We have reached the half-way point of the third quarter, and teachers will be sharing how students' academic progress is looking with only four to five weeks left before spring break.
This week also marks national school counseling week. We are fortunate to have a very skilled and dedicated team of counselors who assist with student social emotional and academic needs. If you have the opportunity, please thank them for all they do for the Mickle community.

National School Counseling Week 2025
National School Counseling Week 2025, "School Counseling: Helping Students Thrive," will be celebrated February 3-7, 2025, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems.
QPR Optional Training
As a parent/caregiver, we want you to be informed about how to respond to concerns about suicidal behaviors. A QPR webinar is being offered by LPS on March 6th from 7-8 pm. You do not need to register, you can just use the Zoom link below to join.
A second option is being offered by Region V Systems on March 14th from 12-130pm and you can register using the link below.
QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer -3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. The mission of QPR is to save lives and reduce suicidal behaviors by providing innovative, practical and proven suicide prevention training. QPR will train people to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade and refer someone to help. We believe that quality education empowers all people, regardless of their background, to make a positive difference in the life of someone they know.

Digital Citizenship Tips
Would you like to have a conversation with your student about staying safe online?
Here are some questions to start the conversation:
What are the terms of service and age limits for the apps you are using?
What should you do when you see or receive a message, image or post that makes you feel uncomfortable?
How can you protect your online reputation?
Want ideas for supporting digital citizenship in your home? Follow your school, LPS Library Services, or #lpsdigcit on social media to get weekly tips. Or find the whole collection here: https://home.lps.org/libraries/digital-citizenship/
The Middle School Matters book club conversation will take place on Tuesday, February 25 towards the end of the PTSO meeting. See PTSO meeting information below.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Next Tuesday, Feb.11, from 4:30-6:30pm will be our quarter 3 Parent-Teacher Conferences for Mickle! This year, the District has changed the format so that we have one evening of conferences each quarter.
Our future conference night for fourth quarter will take place on:
-April 15, 2025
This quarter, teachers will be available for in-person conferences on Tuesday, February 11 from 4:30-6:30 p.m on a first come, first served basis. If this is your first time attending middle school parent teacher conferences, please know that teachers aim for each conference to take approximately 3-5 minutes in order to keep lines moving. Due to the changes in the conference format, there is a possibility of longer lines for in-person conferences.
Before in-person conferences on Feb 11th, staff will reach out to specific families to provide updates via phone. This may include updates on in-class behaviors, missing assignments, and successes.
If conferences don’t work for your schedule this quarter, that is understandable. As always, there are many ways to stay informed about your student’s progress. Teachers will be sending emails around conference time to communicate about students’ progress in classes, and mid quarter grades will be sent out THIS Friday, Feb 7 at the end of the school day. Please know that families are always invited to reach out to our staff, including grade level counselors, to ask questions or receive updates.
If you would like to receive text messages from Mickle or LPS to your phone, this document will assist you in setting that up.
Click here to watch a tutorial on how to use all of the helpful tools offered in ParentVue, including viewing your student's attendance, tardies, work completion, and grades.
The next PTSO meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 25 from 6:00-7:00PM in the Mickle Media Center.
Please visit Village Inn and they will take your order from their storefront for take-out. When purchasing your meal, mention your group’s name to receive 20% of your meal’s price donated back to Mickle Middle school.
