April 2023

A Message From the Principal

Mickle Families,

There is not doubt that the  final two months of the school year will move by quickly.  While summer will be upon us before we know it, there is still so much that will take place in the time we have remaining.  It's our hope that this newsletter will assist your family in knowing what is coming up for the students at Mickle.

As always, reach out to us as we collaborate with you in your child's education.

Also, the Mickle building will be undergoing construction starting this month. Beginning April 17, the front entrance will no longer be available. Students will be dismissed through the 7th Grade doors on the west side of the building when that construction begins! Please still call our CLC phone at 402-419-3730 if your student needs to be called out!

If you have any questions, please let me know!

Have a wonderful start to April

Construction

Construction and renovations for Mickle will begin after school on Friday, April 15.  When students arrive back at school on Monday, April 18, the front entrance will no longer be accessible.  The construction project will be staged at the main entrance, and a temporary fence will be erected to separate construction for students and the general public (see graphic).  Beginning on the morning of April 18, the main entrance will move to door #7.

The cut out drive to door number one will also no longer be accessible.  We are included a graphic to depict the areas that will be closed off through the end of the school year below.

Additionally, on this day, we will lose access to the cafeteria, although the kitchen will remain open.  We are pivoting to using the auditorium for lunch through the end of the school year.  Finally, the cooking lab portion of the FCS classroom will be under construction through June.  Ms. Harris has made adjustments to her lessons, and will still have access to the sewing lab when needed.  The art and STS classrooms will be renovated in the summer and students in these classes will not experience a change to their day to day schedules.

The importance of maintaining a safe and secure school will remain an emphasis while going through construction.  The secured entrance monitor station has been moved to the temporary new main entrance.  Additionally, all construction workers assigned to the project have gone through a background check and will be wearing identification notifying staff that they are clear to be in the building.

Here is the graphic for where construction will impact our school beginning Monday April, 18:

Counseling Center

April 26th is Hope Day! Mickle has recently launched a Hope Squad which consists of students wanting to bring hope to our school and community. They are trained to help students who might be struggling with suicidal thoughts and then getting them connected to a trusted adult. If you or someone you know might be struggling here are some resources that might be helpful - Call 9-8-8 the Suicide and Crisis Hotline or Text "Hello" to 741741 to be connected to the Crisis Text Line.

We are here to support students and collaborate with families.  If there is something we can do to assist, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

Information for families with a student entering 7th grade in the 2023/2024 school year.

We know there is a great deal of information coming home from school, but we want to especially make you aware of a Nebraska requirement for students entering a public school entering 7th grade.

Families of 7th grade students for the 2023/2024 school year need to provide the following information to the school your child attends – or will attend:

There are many resources available and the school nurse can assist you if you have questions about either of these items.  Nebraska law requires students to have immunizations completed by the first day of school. Lincoln Public Schools extends a grace period for immunizations, allowing families to make necessary appointments and have them completed by the end of first quarter.

Students who have not submitted complete immunization records to the health office by Oct. 12, 2023 will NOT be allowed back to school until immunization records are submitted and up-to-date.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your school nurse at

402-436- 1216 (option 4).

Testing Season is upon us!

It’s said a body needs 8 hours of sleep every night. That’s especially true during testing season. Student Chromebooks also need a good night of charging. Please help your students remember to bring their Chromebooks, fully charged, every day.
