2024 Start of Season: Standing Bear and Kearney High Invite

The 2023-24 season started this past weekend. The Girls Wrestling team started the season last Thursday at Lincoln Standing Bear, while the boys started their season on Saturday at Kearney High School (Girls and JV Boys were also at Kearney High School). 

Last Thursday, the Girls Wrestling team traveled to Lincoln Standing Bear for the first girls tournament of the year. The Girls finished in 5th place to start the year, with three medalist's leading the way. Kenzie Frederick finished in 3rd place at 100 pounds, Thalia Rivera finished as runner-up at 115 pounds and Maia Ruben finished off the competition with a runner-up finish at 130 pounds. 

On Saturday everybody traveled to Kearney for the Kearney High Invite. On the girls side of the tournament, we finished with 6 wrestlers in the top 6 including a 6th place performance from Campbell Colborn (125), a 5th place finish from Lili Huegel (120), 4th place finishes from Thalia Rivera (110) and Kenzie Frederick (100) and finishing the competition in 3rd place was Raye Aldag (155) and Maia Ruben (130). 

On the Boys Varsity side of the tournament, we finished with 4 guys in the top 6. Freshman, Zander Ferguson, finished in 6th at 165 pounds, along with Darrek Andrew (113) and Joseph Schaffer (144) both also finishing in 6th Place. At 215 pounds, Senior State Qualifier, Stephen Sullivan-Diaz finished as runner-up, losing to a returning state finalist from Grand Island in the finals. 

Our Boys JV came back to Lincoln with a lot of medals for finishing in the top 2 of their weights. Runner-ups in the JV division include Ozzy Romero, Skye Jurgens, Isaiah Copeland, Sam Lindsay, River Maranville, Gavyn Deterding, Caden Vancleave, Wyatt Parks, Eric Reinsch and John Wood. Coming back with gold medals were Ta Dah Let, Noah Schumacher, Henry Schaffer, Brady Johnson, Tobias Pfeifer, Henry Witte and Reagan Armstrong. 

The Knights Freshman are hosting a Freshman tournament on Thursday (12/7) and the JV will be going to Lincoln Northeast on Friday (12/8). Varsity Boys and Girls will be traveling to Omaha South for the Beau Haizlip Tournament on Saturday December 9th.
