Homework Hub is a fantastic resource available for all Irving students! Several Irving teachers sponsor Homework Hub and help students complete daily homework assignments, complete missing work, study for upcoming assessments and create a space for students to focus on learning and develop strong study habits.
Homework Hub occurs Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afterschool from 3:10 - 4:00. Any student is welcome and sometimes if/when a student has a missing assignment or needs a space to complete an assignment, teachers will reach out to families to assign Hub to ensure students have every opportunity to successfully complete and turn in assignments.
Several Irving teachers are sponsoring Homework Hub! Cathy Mohlman is our Homework Hub liaison & her email address is cmohlman@lps.org.
Our fall sports season is winding down with all city cross country and the LPS middle school volleyball tournament both wrapping up each season the first week of October. Athletes interested in wrestling or in girls basketball should be watching daily announcements for upcoming meetings sharing tryout information, practice schedules, and google classroom codes for athletes to find any important announcements for day to day information. This includes game and meet schedules, practice changes, etc. Athletes are expected to check this daily and communicate information home to families. If athletes skip practice, they are expected to communicate with their coaches ahead of time whenever possible.
If an athlete has participated in a fall sport or families have already completed a permission form, they DO NOT NEED TO complete another form. Permission forms only need to be completed once per year. For those who have NOT done so, this can be completed by going to the LPS website and using the jump code BDPT to access the form or using this link. If students do not have this form filled out by the first day of practice, that student cannot practice with the team and cannot attend until the form is completed. Information about individual sports can be found below:
Only immediate family is allowed to attend games and any sibling or child in the household who is not participating in the game or meet can be in attendance must have an adult to supervise. Students not playing are not allowed to attend and will be asked to leave. Schools do not have the space nor supervision to allow additional spectators.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. To reinforce the importance of bullying prevention, the LPS Strategic Plan supports student and staff wellbeing and outcomes as priority areas. Our LPS Anti-Bullying Policy commits to providing physically safe and emotionally secure environments for all students and staff. To support this policy, bullying prevention is taught through a variety of content areas and opportunities. In addition, all LPS middle and high schools have a Hope Squad. Hope Squad members are respectful and empathetic UPSTANDERS who aim to connect their peers to a trusted adult who can help. Our continued focus is to increase awareness of bullying prevention and provide opportunities for students to apply self awareness, social awareness and responsible decision making skills. We are committed to creating strong connections and a sense of belonging for all students as we stand up against bullying.
Thank you for your continued support with bullying prevention efforts in Lincoln Public Schools. Below are resources for families about bullying prevention.

Keeping Track of Library Books
Would you like to help your student keep track of the books they have checked out from the school library? Here’s how:
Begin at portal.lps.org
Enter your student’s ID and password (If you don’t have this information, the school office can provide it for you)
Select “Destiny Discover” from the alphabetical listing in the portal.
From the upper right hand corner of the screen, select login and click the Blue LPS Portal button.
On the top row, click on the drop menu “My Stuff”.
Select “Checkouts” to see the books that are currently checked out.
Digital Citizenship Tips
At the beginning of the school year all LPS students review Chromebook expectations and the Responsible Use Agreement (RUA) for Chromebook use. Click here to learn more about Chromebook use in LPS and to review the expectations outlined in the RUA. Here are some questions to start a conversation at home about Chromebook expectations:
How do you take care of your Chromebook?
When can you use your Chromebook?
What settings can you change on your Chromebook?

In turn, the 'positive reports' are used as currency in the Aardvark Store! If you'd like to donate peanut free snacks, drinks or school supplies-the link to donate is below! Parents and students can access important Class Information (course description, grading practices, class tips, etc.) on the web (preferred) or via the mobile app. Step-by-step directions can be found on this document: Viewing Class Information in Synergy: Parents & Students or in these video tutorials: Synergy ParentVUE Tutorials.
The District’s goal is to ensure at least one parent/guardian per household has activated and uses their ParentVUE account. If you haven’t yet acquired an account, please contact the school office for an activation key.

LPS wants to protect students and families from full financial responsibility for Chromebook repairs and/or replacement. More details about CAP can be found here: LPS Chromebook Assurance Program (CAP). Enrollment in this optional, but HIGHLY RECOMMENDED program is available until the end of September.
The premium for participation in CAP is $20, annually (or $10 for students who qualify for Free/Reduced Lunch Program) and will appear as a fee in Synergy ParentVUE/StudentVUE for all students in late July. You have two payment options if you choose to participate in the program:
Pay online via Credit Card (via ParentVUE)
Pay on-site via Cash or Check
If you do not choose to participate in the program, the fee can be ignored and will be removed after September.
Please contact the school office for instructions and an activation key if you are new to Synergy ParentVUE.
At our school, we believe that students thrive when their efforts and accomplishments are recognized and celebrated. Acknowledging positive behavior not only helps students feel seen and valued but also motivates them to continue learning, making thoughtful choices, and contributing positively to our community. We strive to balance recognition with opportunities for students to develop their own sense of responsibility and pride in their work. By intentionally reinforcing both effort and growth, we help students build confidence, resilience, and a lifelong love of learning, creating a foundation that supports success both inside and outside the classroom.
Parents can help at home by noticing and naming their student’s positive efforts, whether it is finishing a task they like to avoid, showing kindness to a sibling, or persevering through a challenge. Simple words of encouragement, celebrating small wins, and asking reflective questions like “What are you most proud of today?” can go a long way in building your child’s confidence and motivation. Together, we can support a culture where students feel valued and inspired to grow.
A Parent Guide to Student Chromebook Use in LPS
Parenting a “Chromebook student” can present some interesting challenges. While few students would choose to do worksheets all evening just for fun, your student might actually WANT to be on their Chromebook at night. It can be hard to tell what they’re focusing on while staring at the device screen. Use this Parent Guide to Student Chromebooks & the Digital Learning Environment in LPS resource to help inform your conversations about expectations for Chromebook use at home.

Reminder: Intentional Damage to Chromebooks
As a reminder, damage caused on purpose, or because of a lack of care for the Chromebook, cannot be covered by the Chromebook Assurance Program (CAP). Families will be billed for any intentional damage.
After School Program
Lincoln Parks and Recreation has been serving Irving Middle School families after school since 1977. Much has changed in the past 39 years, and we believe supervised, safe, fun, and meaningful after school activities are as important as ever for middle school students. Some students visit the rec. center simply because they need a place to go after school; however, our staff is intentional about making the center "more than just a place to go." After school staff does this by focusing on a positive environment, supportive relationships, and constructive programs. During after school hours at Irving Recreation Center, middle school students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of age-appropriate, fun, and enriching activities. Students can stay as busy as they’d like with homework, clubs, and special events, or they can simply choose to socialize with friends. We encourage all students to be engaged and take advantage of the activity choices available at the rec. center.
