Selmer Series 9
My father purchased a Selmer Series 9 from our local music store, I think around 1966. I seem to remember that the price was $400. So this is like what I played through high school. I like it!
Barrel: 68.00mm Long!
Bore LH joint top: 15.2mm
Bore LH joint at bottom: 14.75mm poly-cylindrical!
For this test, I pulled 0 at the barrel and 0 at the center tenon. This barrel is too long for me!
Intonation summary: The original barrel is way too long at 68mm! The barrel is marked with a 9, so it seems that it was original. I do play flatter than many players. The test results show that this clarinet would play very well in tune in deed— if one used a standard 66mm barrel. My series 9 was out of tune in the throat tones. If I remember rightly, that was the reason I switched to a Buffet in 1969. This one has great throat tones.
Key work quality: Very good.
This clarinet is most appropriate for: Anyone, but most appropriate for people who want to play jazz with an open sound, due to the huge bore.
Condition issues noted: none.
