Conn 424N

Serial #B346433L Thanks to Gary Kern for letting me review this clarinet!

Barrel: 63.5mm

Bore LH joint top: 15.4mm

Bore LH joint at bottom: 15.2mm

Intonation results taken when playing loud and not lipping. See how to interpret these results on the Model Comparison Page.

For this test, I pulled 1.2mm at the barrel and .8 in the center for this horn.

Intonation summary: Throat tone A and Bb are way too sharp. The cork under the the keys could be thickened, and that would help some.

Gary writes that the short barrel with this horn is out of tune, and he gets better results with his Selmer barrel.

Key work quality: This is German key work, with the little set screws.

This clarinet is most appropriate for: This model is sought after for jazz players. In jazz, a player can bend notes a lot more than when playing a classical set up. So this clarinet would work best for jazz, but I would think that serious players would look for a wide bore instrument with better intonation.
