Selmer CL300

Many thanks to Mary C in NJ for giving me the opportunity to review this clarinet. I recommend this clarinet for reconditioning, if you can find one. This is not a Bundy!

Serial #139286 Serial only on LH joint.

Barrel: 63.2mm

Bore LH joint top: 14.7mm

Bore LH joint at bottom: 14.4mm Looks poly-cylindrical, and not the old wide bore.

Intonation results taken when playing loud and not lipping. See how to interpret these results on the Model Comparison Page.

For this test, I pulled 1.8mm at the barrel and 0.0mm at the center tenon.

Intonation summary: I am seriously impressed! This is professional level intonation. I was prepared to bet this was just a Bundy with a new name. That would definitely be the wrong description. The low throat tone E and F are not serious considering that I test at loud volume. If this had a bit longer barrel, then one would not pull out so far and the throat tones would be better. Or tuning rings can be used to close the interior gap. The thoat tone Bb is a bit of a concern. The high register A and Bb are also unfortunately high, especially since the throat tone didn’t show that tendency.

Key work quality: Very sturdy student quality.

This clarinet is most appropriate for: Anyone, beginner to advanced. Advanced players might want to use a hard rubber barrel to improve the plastic sound.

Condition issues noted: None.
