Federal Grant Description- Title I Part A

Title I Part A of the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act provides financial assistance to districts and schools with high numbers or high percentages of children from low-income families to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards. The priorities of Title I are to:

    • Strengthen the core program in schools and provide academic and/or support services to low-achieving students at the preschool, elementary, middle, and high school levels;

    • Provide evidence-based programs that enable participating students to achieve the learning standards of the state curriculum frameworks;

    • Elevate the quality of instruction by providing eligible staff with substantial opportunities for professional development; and,

    • Involve parents/guardians of participating public and private school children as active partners in their children's education at school through open, meaningful communication, training, and, as appropriate, inclusion in decision-making processes.

Professional Salaries

  • The salary (or portion of the salary) of Reading Specialists and Math and ELA Academic Intervention specialists will be covered with the available funding. They will work with individual students and in small and group settings, organize and facilitate staff development in the areas of reading and writing in the content areas.

  • Stipends for curriculum development work for identified teachers to work outside the regular ·work hours on identified projects based on performance data.

Purchased Services

  • Contracted staff development through Scholastic, Franklin Covey, ASC D, ISTE, and other appropriate organizations to provide professional development opportunities in RTI, Next Generation Learning Standards, and district initiatives to address standards and performance expectations, as well as rental space to accommodate full or half day trainings.

  • Required set asides for homeless and poverty youth to be used as needed.

Supplies and Materials

The District will purchase books and instructional materials for students and teachers addressing the Next Generation Learning Standards and students performing below proficiency.
