Scholarships are awards of FREE MONEY! Students must apply for these awards and we are here to help you! Scholarship money can come from three main different main sources: a college, state or federal money, or a private organization. Start your search here, and our hope is that you never pay for scholarship searches! Use the Table of Contents just below this to jump to topics on this page!
GETTING STARTED
Step 1: Complete the I AM OLYMPIC Profile Form. This allows the counseling team to help you find scholarships right for you!
Step 2: SEARCH FOR SCHOLARSHIPS REGULARLY! See available scholarships below from Mrs. Woolridge and Search websites!
Step 3: Ask for Letters of Recommendation. Ask at least 2 adults to write you a letter with our Letter of Recommendation Form.
Step 4: Consider writing a Personal Statement. Use our Letter of Rec Form or your resume in your High School & Beyond
Step 5: Complete your FAFSA or WASFA Application. You may qualify for Free Money through the FAFSA! Book and appointment with our OHS FAFSA Advisors to help you!

MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) provides academic preparation for community college students who are traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields and are interested in transferring to 4 year institutions.

The high cost of college forces many students to give up on their dreams. That’s why OC has partnered with donors to create the OC Promise, a scholarship program that covers the gap between financial aid and the first year of tuition and fees at Olympic College. The program also provides support services to help Promise scholars succeed.
Serving the Kitsap Peninsula and surrounding counties, Olympic College’s multiple campuses and programs offer students many choices to further their education and career paths.

COLLEGE BOUND SCHOLARSHIP
The College Bound Scholarship program was created by the Washington State Legislature in 2007 to provide state financial aid to QUALIFYING low-income students who may not consider college a possibility due to the cost. The scholarship can cover four years of free tuition at qualifying WA colleges (at comparable public college rates), some fees, and a small book allowance.
This is only open to eligible high school students who applied & were eligible in Middle School. Eligibility is a two-part process.
Students in 7th or 8th grade whose family meets the income requirements must submit and complete an application by the end of the 8th grade year.
Then students must meet the College Bound Pledge requirements and income-eligibility as determined by the student’s financial aid application (FAFSA or WASFA) in their senior year of high school.
Your OHS counselor can assist you with checking your eligibility & completing the steps to select your college.

Washington Award for Vocational Excellence: Recognizes graduating high school seniors and community & technical college students for outstanding performance in career and technical education (CTE) programs.

WUE one pager.pdfThe Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) is an agreement among WICHE’s 16 member states and territories, through which 160+ participating public colleges and universities provide steep nonresident tuition savings for Western students.
Through WUE, eligible students can choose from hundreds of undergraduate programs outside their home state, and pay no more than 150 percent of that institution’s resident tuition rate.
Since full nonresident college-tuition rates may exceed 300 percent of resident rates, WUE increases affordable higher-education choices for students, and minimizes the adverse impacts of student loan debt.

ASK FOR A LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION
Some scholarships require Letters of Recommendation.
Choose an adult to write your letter who knows you well and can speak highly of your personality, interests, strengths, and accomplishments. This could be a teacher, a school counselor, coach, supervisor from a job, internship or volunteer position, or a community leader. Ask well in advance & provide info about yourself to the recommender.

Job Shadowing Experience Program
VMFH is offering Occupational Job Shadowing Opportunities to high school students. This is an opportunity for students to gain exposure to the healthcare field through various professions that contribute to patient care. To assist students in future healthcare career decisions, they have the opportunity to shadow up to 8 hours and/or participate in an extended cohort field experience.
Program Details
The job shadowing experience is intended for high school students ages 16-18 and is a time-limited arrangement allowing the observation of clinical and/or non-clinical staff members in a non-patient facing environment.
Shadowing allows students to follow and observe a healthcare professional while they carry out their responsibilities. Students will be scheduled in 2-, 4-, 6- or 8-hour increments, with an opportunity for an extended cohort field experience through their academic institution.
Eligibility
High school students must be 16-18 years of age. VMFH does not discriminate based on race, color, sex, religion, national origin, disability or sexual orientation.
Job Shadowing Areas
Areas include a wide range of healthcare occupations, such as CNA, Pre-pharmacy,
Pre-physical Therapy, Respiratory, Lab, Radiology, Sterile Processing, Surgical Tech, Patient Advocates, BioMed, Healthcare IT workers, among other fields.

VIBES CONFERENCE

We’re excited to invite your high school students to the V.I.B.E.S. Conference - Visionaries Inspiring Black Empowered Students - at Washington State University! This annual conference is a three-day, two-night event designed to inspire and empower Black students, focusing on leadership development and higher education.
Event Details
Dates: February 7-9, 2025
Location: WSU Pullman Campus
Student Application: Opens November 1, 2024
Application Deadline: January 17, 2025 by 11:59 PM
Transportation: Provided via charter buses from multiple locations across Washington state.
Cost: $50 (covers transportation, lodging, meals, and conference materials; please note that fee waivers are limited and available upon request)
The conference is primarily for juniors and seniors from African-American backgrounds, but we welcome applications from students of all identities and grade levels.
Student attendees will engage in workshops, team-building activities, and discussions on college prep, personal growth, and community challenges.

Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group Opportunity
The Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group's StreamTeam Internship application is currently open.
Every summer the StreamTeam Internship is offered for students to learn valuable skills for any career related to fisheries, environmental science, biology, and ecology. Get hands-on monitoring experience on several Hood Canal rivers and streams, and the data collected helps our organization with future habitat restoration and fish research programs.
This program is only available to local students! It's a great program where students are working outside gaining valuable experience in the field - plus they get a stipend.

This internship's format is taiored to accommodate the ever-fluctuating commitments and responsibilities of students.
