Mrs. Meriwether

Hello!

I am excited and proud to be a new faculty member of Christ the King School this year! I have been a teacher for ten years and I have experience teaching students in every grade level from Kindergarten to 12th. I have a dual certification in Special Education and Elementary Education. I began my teaching career in Metro Nashville Public Schools then moved into the Diocesan school system in 2014. I have a Master's degree in Special Education from the University of Tennessee and completed the elementary education program with a concentration in urban/multicultural education. I have an undergraduate degree in geography.

I am an alumnus of Christ the King School and Father Ryan High School. I was a varsity athlete in basketball and volleyball. I no longer play those sports but I have developed a love for hot yoga, walking/hiking, and tennis (beginner). Although I love these activities, most of my time is spent on various playgrounds and libraries throughout Nashville holding my 8 month old (Eli) in my arms and chasing my 2 1/2 year old daughter, Isla.

This year you can see me in action teaching 7th and 8th grade English, 7th grade geography, 3-6th grade math resource, and all of the enrichment classes. I also proctor the after school study hall on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday afternoons till 4:15 p.m.

This year I am looking forward to building relationships with students, colleagues, and parents. I want you to know that I pledge to be the teacher for your child that I want for my own children. Here are the things I pledge to do this year:

  1. Offer multiple methods of instruction to discover the best approach for each child.
  2. When appropriate offer choice for homework and classwork assignments.
  3. I will not assign "busy work" that is meaningless, all homework will be purposeful and have value to understanding the concept being taught in class.
  4. Post homework assignments and important dates in Google Classroom and on the test calendar for the school.
  5. Encourage and value your child's questions.
  6. Offer monthly opportunities for self-reflection on successes and failures, while planning for changes for the next month.
  7. Inform you of the curriculum covered each month.
  8. Be available to you for support and strategies.
  9. Address poor assessment performances (below 70%) with strategies and a chance to gain extra points on the assessment.
  10. Be available on Wednesday and Friday afternoons to answer questions related to assignments, assessments, and writing.
