Welcome to American Sign Language,
My name is Marla Boswell and I was born and raised in Burkburnett, TX. I taught ASL at Burkburnett High School for 10 years and now very excited to be starting the ASL program at City View! I have been married to my husband Scott for 26 years and we have two children. Our daughter Lexi graduated in May from MSU and is working as a graduate assistant through Baylor, Scott and White as an athletic trainer in East Texas. Our son Jacob is in his senior year at Wayland Baptist University where he plays football and is studying to be a teacher/coach.
I spend a lot of time with my family and I'm so thankful for them. I also enjoy all types of music...well maybe not ALL but many different genres. I love to dance and my favorite show is Dancing with the Stars. I also enjoy going to the movies, especially the dinner/movie theaters. Most importantly, I enjoy learning about other people and their cultures. I am in awe of how unique each of us were created and enjoy learning about people and their life story.
I'm always asked how I learned ASL and I really don't have a profound answer. I was a stay at home mom and just wanted to learn a new skill. I called around asking what classes were starting and found a sign language class at a church in Wichita Falls. I picked up on the signs pretty quick and fell in love with the language. I began signing a few songs in church which led to me enrolling in an interpreter training program. Eventually I went back to MSU and then received my teachers certification shortly after that. This will be my tenth year to teach ASL at BHS and I love it!
