Recently a song was written by Taylor Swift titled “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” went viral. It talks of regret, pain, and reminiscence of better days. Released in the 22nd of October back in 2012, it was a song that sparked many years of speculation on who it was about among fans. And it was a song loved by the majority of her fans. It's almost sad how the fans decided to love a song as dreary as this one, but that just goes to show how well put together and relatable it was. But as most emotional songs go, Taylor Swift's "All Too Well" comes from a dark place.
During an appearance on Rolling Stone's 500 greatest albums, Taylor Swift talked about how the song itself came to be.
"It was a day when I was just, like, a broken human, walking into rehearsal just feeling terrible about what was going on in my personal life," she felt terrible. All she could do was play four cords over and over again, and it's likely that she didn't even realize it.
But as she played, so too did her band.
"People just started playing along with me... I think they could tell I was really going through it." And then she sang.
It was only due to her team's foresight that she was even able to keep the song, having burnt it into a CD in case she wanted it.
She ended up taking it home and only after listening to it did she realize she liked it.
But the thing is, it was 10 minutes long and she couldn't really put that in an album, so she called Liz Rose, her cowriter and long time collaborator just so she could put the song in her then new album "Red".
Many years later, on the 12th of November, 2021, following the controversy regarding her masters, she released her second re-recorded album, Red, where she re-recorded two version of "All Too Well". The 5-minute track, and the other, more complete, 10 minute one.
The 10 minute version took the world by storm.
