Opened in 1909, it is the oldest city park in Nagoya. There are Japanese gardens, flower beds, and ponds, and it is also known as a famous spot for cherry blossoms and roses. Especially in spring, this park is famous as one of the best cherry blossom viewing spots in Nagoya and is visited by many visitors. The park is dotted with historical buildings such as the "Tsuruma Library" and "Okaya Nagoya Hall," sports facilities, restaurants, and shops, making it a popular spot for walking and sightseeing.
It is directly connected to the JR and subway stations, and the roads are flat with good access. Although information about the history of the park is written in both Japanese and English, some other parts of the information are written only in Japanese. The pictograms are very easy to understand, so you won't have any trouble navigating around the park. The new areas in the park, called "Tsuruma Garden" (Area 1, 2, 3), which include restaurants and other facilities, are carefully designed for wheelchair movement, including barrier-free restrooms, which have audio guidance in Japanese.
Historic buildings and rich nature are in harmony, and Tsuruma Park also functions as a center of cultural and civic activities.
In terms of nature and scenery, it is famous as a cherry blossom viewing spot in spring. You can also enjoy the rose garden, Japanese garden, and seasonal scenery in the park.
Cultural and historical buildings are also a highlight. Okaya Nagoya Hall, which is designated as a tangible cultural property by the city of Nagoya, is used as a venue for concerts and events. Tsurumai Library is one of the oldest libraries in Aichi Prefecture and is regarded as an intellectual hub for this region.
This park is also perfect for activities and events. In the park, there is a facility called Terraspo Tsuruma, which is equipped with soccer and lacrosse courts, as well as tennis courts, so you can enjoy sports activities. The outdoor music amphitheatre hosts a variety of free concerts, especially on weekends.
