India crossed 500 million smartphone users in 2019. With the growing accessibility to the internet, cyber crimes have increased too. This poses a great responsibility for journalists to report on cybercrimes in an effective manner and keep the public updated on the harms and ways to prevent cybercrimes from happening. The internet today grants its users anonymity. This anonymity costs people their mental health and risks to their personal information. Hence it is important to deal with this topic outside of the cliche topics in Journalism. The digital world requires journalists to be up-to-date on reporting cyber crimes so that no story goes unheard. This workshop is your chance to learn from an expert and add an important skill to your skill-set so that your reportage on cybercrime is accurate, professional, and most importantly- responsible.
The workshop is to be led by Manasi Paresh Kumar, a journalist for more than thirteen years with a number of investigative stories, is currently the Engagement Editor at Bengaluru Citizen Matters. She has covered important topics around Bangalore like the elevated corridor, women’s safety, Bellandur lake restoration, etc. Manasi’s reportage brings forth the charisma and voice of reason she possesses. She talks about stories that truly matter and affect the general public of India.
