조지프 스티글리츠 컬럼비아 대학교 교수

스티글리츠 교수는 경제협력기구(OECD)의 ‘경제적 성취와 사회발전 측정 위원회’(the Commission on the Measurement of Economic Performance and Social Progress)의 공동 위원장이자 루스벨트 연구소의 수석 경제학자이다. 스티글리츠 교수는 2001년 노벨 경제학상을 받았고, 1979년에는 만 40세 이하의 유망한 경제학자들에게 주어지는 존 베이츠 클라크 메달을 받을 만큼 경제학계에서는 거물로 통한다. 그는 세계은행(World Bank)의 수석 이코노미스트겸 클린턴 정부의 경제자문위원회 위원장을 맡기도 했다.

논문 인용수를 기준으로, 스티글리츠는 세계에서 4번째로 가장 영향력 있는 경제학자로 뽑혔고, 2011년에는 Time지에서 선정한 가장 영향력 있는 100인에도 뽑혔다. 스티글리츠 교수는 정보비대칭성 이론을 개척한 것을 시작으로, 소득분배, 자산위험관리(asset risk management), 거버넌스와 국제무역을 연구한다.

스티글리츠 교수는 많은 저서를 출판했으며, 그 중 다수는 베스트셀러 반열에 올랐다. 그가 최근에 쓴 책으로는 <The Euro: How a Common Currency Threatens the Future of Europe>, <Rewriting the Rules of the American Economy: An Agenda for Growth and Shared Prosperity>, ‘거대한 불평등(The Great Divide)>이 있다.


Joseph E. Stiglitz is an American economist and a professor at Columbia University. He is also the co-chair of the High-Level Expert Group on the Measurement of Economic Performance and Social Progress at the OECD, and the Chief Economist of the Roosevelt

Institute. A recipient of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences (2001) and the John Bates Clark Medal (1979), he is a former senior vice president and chief economist of the World Bank and a former member and chairman of the (US president's) Council of Economic Advisers. In 2000, Stiglitz founded the Initiative for Policy Dialogue, a think tank on international development based at Columbia University. He has been a member of the Columbia faculty since 2001 and received that university's highest academic rank (university professor) in 2003. Based on academic citations, Stiglitz is the 4th most influential economist in the world today, and in 2011 he was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Known for his pioneering work on asymmetric information, Stiglitz's work focuses on income distribution, asset risk management, corporate governance, and international trade. He is the author of numerous books, and several bestsellers. His most recent titles are The Euro: How a Common Currency Threatens the Future of Europe, Rewriting the Rules of the American Economy: An Agenda for Growth and Shared Prosperity and The Great Divide: Unequal Societies and What We Can Do About Them.

Ueda Kazuo

우에다 가즈오 도쿄대학교 고등금융연구센터장

일본의 대표적인 국제금융 전문가인 가즈오 교수는 도쿄대학교에서 학사와 석사를 받은 뒤에 MIT에서 경제학 박사를 취득했다.

가즈오 교수는 University of British Columbia, 오사카 대학교를 거쳐 도쿄대학교에서 교편을 잡고 있다.

그는 1998년부터 2005년까지 일본은행 심의위원으로 활동했고 2005년부터 2007년까지 도교대학교 경제학부 학과장을 역임했다. 2010년부터 2014년 까지 일본 정부투자연금기금에서 투자이원회 위원장을 역임하기도 했다.

현재는 일본산업은행의 사외고문으로 활동하고 있다.


Graduated from the School of Science, University of Tokyo. Received his Ph.D. in Economics from MIT. Has taught at the University of British Columbia, Osaka University and the University of Tokyo. Served as a member of the Policy Board at the Bank of Japan during 1998-2005. Served as the Dean of the Faculty of Economics, University of Tokyo from October 2005 to September 2007. Served as the chairman of the Investment Committee of Japan’s GPIF during 2010-2014. Currently serves as external director of the Development Bank of Japan, Audit and Supervisory Board Member of Melco Holdings Inc., Director of the Center for Advanced Research and Finance at the University of Tokyo, and a member of the Subcommittee on Pension Fund Management at the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
