Taehee Woo

Taehee Woo currently works as a professor of Graduate School of Engineering in Yonsei University. He is also Head of Blockchain Industry Development Committee in Korea Blockchain Association. He served as Vice Minister for Energy and Trade in MOTIE from Jan 2016 to July 2017. In this capacity, he directed and oversaw trade negotiations and cooperation with Korea's international partners. He also supervised all aspects of energy and resources policy and development planning.

Prior to assuming the job of Vice Minister, Mr. Woo served as Deputy Minister for Trade from 2015 to 2016 and as Assistant Minister for Trade and Chief Negotiator for FTAs from 2013 to 2015. In these roles, Mr. Woo acted as one of the principle architects of Korea's trade policy and led negotiations on a number of major international agreements, including the Republic of Korea-China Free Trade Agreement, the largest in Korea's history. Before becoming Assistant Minister, Mr. Woo served from 2009 to 2013 as Director-General of four bureaus responsible for key areas of the national economy, including Energy Efficiency, Manufacturing Industries, Global Industrial Cooperation, and Technology Policy. From 1988 to 2007, Mr. Woo worked as Director and Deputy Director managing economic policy in a wide array of domains, including industrial policy, industrial promotion, planning and budget, trade cooperation, and exports. Mr. Woo also represented his country twice in overseas diplomatic missions, as Minister Counselor (Commercial) at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in the United States from 2007 to 2009 and as Consul at the Korean General Consulate in New York from 2002 to 2005.

Mr. Woo was recognized for his public service with the Red Stripes Order of Service Merit in 2010, the third-highest civilian honor bestowed by the Government of the Republic of Korea. Prior to that, he received an Award from the Minister of Trade and Industry in 1991 and an Award from the Minister of Government Legislation in 1989.

Mr. Woo is the author of several books on policy and international affairs, including Ten Forces Shaping the World in the Age of Obama (Saeroun Jean, 2008), Wall Street Giants Who Shook the Global Economy (Saeroun Jean, 2005), and Softer is Stronger (FKI Media, 2002), a comprehensive look at the challenges facing South Korea’s labor market.
