Chittenango Creek
Chittenango Creek, located in Madison and Onondaga counties, runs from Nelson Swamp (north of the village of Cazenovia) to Oneida Lake. Chittenango Creek is one of the more popular trout fishing streams in Central New York. There are 4.8 miles of Public Fishing Rights (PFR) along this medium sized, partially open and swift flowing stream.
Besides being a prime trout stream, it is also a very scenic waterway with a large 167 foot waterfall located in Chittenango Falls State Park. No fishing allowed on a small section of stream directly above the falls for safety reasons (park regulation). Downstream of the falls fishing is permitted in the Park, so you can catch trout and view this spectacular falls at the same time.

Chittenango Creekwalk
Starting from the Lower Dyke Road parking lot; The stone-dust trail heads north alongside Chittenango Creek utilizing a boardwalk at one point. You then come to a circle with 3 spokes leading off it. take any of the trails which bring you through the Upper Dyke parking lot and out to Dyke Rd at 0.5 miles. Head right on Dyke Rd (wide shoulder) then right on Brinkerhoff Hill Rd to a crosswalk over Madison St. Take another crosswalk over Genesee St and travel right (north) along the west side of the street (no crosswalk ahead). Cross the river and turn left into a parking lot on your left (directly across the street from the Sullivan Free Library). At the back of the parking lot you'll pick up the stone-dust trail again at 0.8 miles. Map board and picnic area here. Travel north alongside the creek, passing by a promenade overlooking the creek before the trail turns right along a paved trail passing through the Grand at Chittenango (Senior Citizen Center) and out to Russell Street at 1.1 miles.
Neighborhood Trail
Starting from Kirschenheiter Park; Map board located here. The paved trail travels through the park from Hawthorne Ave, past a playground and picnic pavilion then across Webber Drive where you pick up a stone-dust trail. Travel through an open corridor along wetlands, reeds and Weeping Willows. After 0.3 miles turn right over a wooden bridge where the trail turns to woodchips. Head left at the intersection following a small creek out to Sullivan Town Park parking lot at 0.5 miles where you'll find a map board, playground, picnic pavilion and Porto-Potty's. Continue straight along the park road up a hill, then down to Lake St at 0.8 miles. Turn left down Russell Street, crossing over Chittenango Creek and you'll come to the current northern end of Chittenango Creekwalk after 1 mile.
Erie Canal Historic Towpath Trail
Old Erie Canal State Park is a 36-mile stretch of the 363-mile Old Erie Canal which runs right through the north side of the Village of Chittenango, which has been designated a National Recreational Trail by the National Parks Service. The terrain is woodland and wetland that present opportunities for hiking, picnicking, horseback riding, bicycling, canoeing, fishing, and snowmobiling. Several areas have footbridges that aid access to the canal towpath where visitors can view the remnants of stone aqueducts.
Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum
The Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum is located within the Old Erie Canal State Historic Park in Central New York State. During the 19th and 20th centuries, 96-foot long cargo boats were built and repaired on this site. The Museum tells of the construction of these boats, the workings of the restored dry docks and the social history of the canal area.
Chittenango landing is located on Lakeport Rd. on the north side of the Village of Chittenango.
