2-15-26 Happy Valentine's Day
2-1-26 Catholic School's Week and Human Body Systems
We had an amazing Catholic Schools Week with so many fun activities! We also wrapped up our study of the Human Body with a classroom transformation day right before CSW. Our class was changed into"St. Mary's Hospital." Check out the picures below.
1-11-26 Math Fun
Second grade students have been busy building their math skills by measuring one another, recording their results, and displaying the data on a line plot. With extra midyear testing, students also earned well-deserved brain breaks to keep their bodies and minds ready to learn. Here they are enjoying one of their favorite movement breaks, jumping and dancing together.
12-22-25 Second grade students recently “traveled” around the world as they explored Christmas traditions from different countries while practicing their map skills. They visited Australia, Japan, Mexico, Germany, France, and England, participated in hands-on activities, sampled special treats from around the world, and enjoyed a special visit from Captain Daun, who shared his experiences as a pilot.
11-30-25 This Week in Second Grade: Then and Now!
Our second graders have been busy diving into the past as they explore Then and Now through their study of the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag tribe. Students learned all about the Mayflower voyage, discovered what daily life was like for Pilgrim boys and girls, and explored the traditions and culture of the Wampanoag people. To wrap up their learning, they compared the very first Thanksgiving to the ways we celebrate today.
Students also brought their family Balloons Over Broadway projects to life by creating their very own Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade right in our classroom! Their balloons were so creative and exciting to watch as they came to life.
It’s been an unforgettable week of history, creativity, and celebration!
This week in second grade was all about pumpkins! Students rolled up their sleeves to investigate the insides of a pumpkin- scooping out seeds, making predictions, and counting before stuffing their pumpkins with trash items to launch our STREAM project with the 4th grade. We even got to taste pumpkin pie and roasted pumpkin seeds to wrap up our pumpkin fun!
Amid all the excitement, students also became published authors, sharing their stories in our very own Author Celebration. To top off the week, we concluded our study of Baptism with a special classroom reenactment, complete with “Baby Mary,” who was lovingly “baptized” by our 2nd graders in our classroom church. It was a joyful, faith-filled week of learning, laughter, and hands-on discovery!
10-26-25 Second Grade Highlights
The second graders had a busy and exciting week! Students worked hard to publish their rough drafts as mini-books, wrapping up our study of realistic fiction in both reading and writing. On Wednesday, our class led the school Mass for the first time this year—what a wonderful opportunity to share their voices and faith with the school community! Then on Thursday, we teamed up with the 4th-grade class to kick off our new STREAM project all about pumpkins. It was a fantastic week of learning, creativity, and collaboration!
10-19-24 Fire Safety Fun with the Chilton Fire Department!
Our second graders had an exciting visit from the Chilton Fire Department! Firefighters shared important lessons about fire safety, how to stay calm in an emergency, and the importance of having a family escape plan. We’re grateful to our local heroes for keeping our community safe and for taking the time to teach our students these lifesaving skills!
10-5-25 Apple Adventures and Acts of Kindness
Our second graders had a wonderful time exploring the world of apples! They measured, weighed, and tasted different kinds while learning all about the apple life cycle. Their excitement and curiosity made the lesson so much fun! Later, the students shared their big hearts with the residents at Century Ridge by visiting and passing out the fall magnets they made. It was a sweet way to brighten someone’s day and share God’s love in our community.
9-28-25 After STAR testing, we took a break in the library reading some magazines and in our classroom with a fun fall brain break.
9-21-25 Take a look at our STREAM Bin creations from this week.
9-14-25 This week in 2nd grade, we had some fun in math with some partner work activities. We also learned a new math game called "addition top-it." Learning new games and switching up math work with partners adds an extra level of excitement to our everyday lessons. Check us out below!
9-7-25 The first week of 2nd grade is officially in the books! We focused our first days on building a classroom community and learning more about each other with some fun get-to-know-you activities. We also learned more about our classroom and checked out the different flexible seating options available in our room. We ended the week by exploring some new learning sites on our Chromebooks and practicing our teamwork skills by "Saving Fred" the gummy worm. We had a fantastic start- take a look at some of our pictures from the first week below!
