LATEST NEWS FROM CHILTERN COUNTRYSIDE GROUP & LAST CALL TO RESPOND TO LTN AIRPORT EXPANSION CONSULTATION CLOSING 16.12.19

Dear supporters,

We hope you're enjoying these weeks leading up to Christmas and not becoming too stressed, despite the General Election looming ever more closely.

FINAL & LAST CALL FOR LONDON LUTON AIRPORT EXPANSION STATUTORY CONSULTATION CLOSING 16 DECEMBER 2019

This is now your last opportunity to contribute your views and concerns to the statutory consultation on London Luton Airport Ltd expansion plans for the airport, which closes at 11.59pm on Monday 16 December 2019.

We hope you were able to attend one of the Public Consultation Events held locally over the past few weeks. Members of the Steering Group attended and one statistic from this, which was rather horrifying, stated there would be a 50% increase in aircraft operations over the expansion period. Despite the expected fall in noise levels due to quieter aircraft and better operational procedures, which hopefully will happen, this is still an awful lot more aircraft flying at low levels over our heads and the precious landscape of the Chilterns AONB.

Please do take a few minutes away from pondering on whom you might vote for to respond to this Consultation.

It is vitally important that as many people object as possible - although the CCG has responded as a Group, it is essential that individuals do so, too.

Don't lose this opportunity, your voice will make a difference.

UPDATE ON HS2

The findings of the Oakervee HS2 Review will not be announced until post-Election, although media reports indicate that Lord Berkeley, deputy Chairman of the Review, has stepped down from the Committee, as it would seem he was not given the opportunity to consider the Review's final outcome.

Media coverage also indicates just today that HS2 costs are now likely to be North of £100bn and that serious questions are consistently being raised on value for money, Cost Benefit Ratio, let alone the damage to irreplaceable landscapes and green spaces.

So, we live in hope! If you get the chance to ask your constituency candidates their view on HS2 that would be excellent.

And finally, a huge thank you to you all for your support and encouragement over the past year.

Every good wish to you all for a most Happy Christmas and a peaceful and positive New Year.

Steering Group.
