LATEST NEWS FROM CHILTERN COUNTRYSIDE GROUP ON LONDON LUTON AIRPORT PROPOSED EXPANSION & CONSULTATION FROM 25.6.18
Do hope you're all enjoying the wonderful sunshine and finding some welcome Chiltern beech trees for shade, too.
LONDON LUTON AIRPORT EXPANSION CONSULTATION JUNE-END AUGUST 2018
As we guess you already know, London Luton Airport (LLA) are proposing to expand the airport considerably, which if successful, will increase the already huge impact of noise, visible and aural pollution over our Chiltern communities and the AONB. Currently, we are overflown by Easterly arrivals and Westerly departures operating at Luton, Heathrow departures, the Bovingdon stacking hold and operations at Northolt. Enough is enough! we think we would all agree.
TO PROTECT THE PRECIOUS TRANQUILITY AND PEACE OF THE CHILTERNS, IT IS THEREFORE ESSENTIAL THAT AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE FROM AS MANY COMMUNITIES AS POSSIBLE RESPOND TO THE NON-STATUTORY CONSULTATION RECENTLY LAUNCHED BY LLA.
LLA say: 'We want to make the best use of our existing runway (in line with Government policy) which will involve providing additional capacity, and we have identified a number of options to help make this happen. We are also committed to minimising and mitigating the impacts of expansion. We will show our assessments of these impacts, and ask for your feedback on our mitigation plans.'
As part of this, LLA is running Consultation Events at the following nearby locations (although disappointingly, none in the Chilterns or Buckinghamshire):
Weds 11 July 2018 14.00-20.00 Eaton Bray Village Hall, Church Lane, Eaton Bray, Dunstable. LU62DJ.
Tues 17 July 2018 14.00-20.00 The Old Town Hall, High Street, Hemel Hempstead. HP1 3AE.
Weds 25 July 2018 14.00-20.00 Mead Hall, East Lane, Wheathampstead, St. Albans. AL4 8BP.
Sat 28 July 2018 13.00-16.30 Flamstead Village Hall, Church Road, St. Albans. AL3 8BN.
Sat 4 August 2018 12.00-16.30 Linslade Community Hall, Waterloo Road, Linslade, Leighton Buzzard. LU7 2NR.TT
A full list of venues, the consultation and LLA's plans can be found at: www.futureluton.llal.org.uk. The Consultation opened on 25 June, 2018 and CLOSES ON FRIDAY 31 AUGUST 2018.
Publicity for this so far has been minimal, so please do spread the word amongst your neighbours, contact your local Councillors and your MP, to ensure the widest possible feedback to LLA.
On your behalf, the CCG Steering Group is engaged in dialogue with LLA's management, alongside other community groups and local Councils, to try to achieve the best possible outcomes for settlements and the environment affected by the airport's operations.
The CCG has also contributed feedback to LLA on its recent draft Noise Action Plan for 2019-23.
Your comments are important and we would welcome your feedback, thoughts and ideas whilst we have these important opportunities to potentially make a real difference.
Best wishes to you all.
