URGENT AND IMPORTANT NEWS FROM CHILTERN COUNTRYSIDE GROUP RE: HS2 SELECT COMMITTEE VISIT TO CHILTERNS MONDAY NEXT 10 AUGUST
HS2 SELECT COMMITTEE VISIT TO CHILTERNS MONDAY 10.8.15
We are most grateful to Cheryl Gillan, MP for Chesham and Amersham, and her office for arranging this tour of the HS2 route through the Chilterns.
We have just received confirmation of what is expected to be the itinerary for the new members of the HS2 Select Committee's visit to the Chilterns next MONDAY 10 AUGUST 2015. The tour begins in Twyford, Bucks at 12.45 and will cover the entire HS2 route in the Chilterns, ending at Amersham train station at 18.20.
The attached note sets out the tour and route with timings so do please find a few moments to check when and where these newly appointed MPs will be in YOUR AREA. AND DO PLEASE DO YOUR UTMOST TO BE AT, OR NEAR TO, THE LOCATION WHEN THEY VISIT.
This is a key opportunity to demonstrate very quickly and easily the strength of concern and opposition to the route as currently planned. Additionally, where there are longer stops there may be opportunity to express your thoughts on the mitigation currently being offered, especially at the sites looking towards the 2 viaducts near Wendover in the AONB.
The number of people from the communities enroute who turned out for the last visit in June made a strong impression on those Committee members, so if you were one of those, thank you so much and - we now need to do the same again.
So come with your children (an activity for the school hols!), dogs, bicycles, horses and so on and encourage others to do the same - even if you can only spare a few minutes to wave at the bus, or wave a placard! as it passes the end of your road or garden, all will help to make the right impression.
CCG is currently working, together with other petitioners, on further strategies and actions to further our pleas for a fully bored tunnel throughout the whole of the AONB.
All petitioners from the Chilterns, including the statutory authorities and the Conservation Board, who have already appeared before the Select Committee are united in encouraging and supporting ALL INDIVIDUAL PETITIONERS as they plan their own appearance in the Autumn. CCG is willing to offer practical advice and help to any individual or other local Group who might find this useful SO DO PLEASE GET IN TOUCH EITHER BY EMAIL OR PHONE - we will be only too pleased to share our own experiences and strategies to help make this occasion/opportunity less daunting and more accessible.
IT IS ABSOLUTELY VITAL THAT AS MANY INDIVIDUAL PETITIONERS AS POSSIBLE
EXERCISE THEIR RIGHT TO BE HEARD BY THE SELECT COMMITTEE
and that each person asks for the amount of time which they reasonably need to present their plea in an appropriate way.
REMEMBER TOGETHER WE GIVE POWER TO THE MESSAGE
With best wishes to you all,
on behalf of the Chiltern Countryside Group
