Greetings Middle School Parents and Caregivers:

I would like to send a virtual standing ovation to all of you for the outstanding work that you are doing with your scholars at home! It is evident in your scholars’ work, attendance and participation.

This week, I wanted to share a beautiful poem that speaks to the bright side of this pandemic because we all need a little light during this time.

Always remember, “We are in this together”!

What If Instead Of Being Behind These Kids Are Ahead?

What if, instead of falling behind, our kids are advanced?

What if they have more empathy, they enjoy family connection, they can be more creative and entertain themselves, they love to read and express themselves in writing?

What if they enjoy the simple things, like their own backyards and balconies, sitting near a window in the quiet?

What if they notice the birds and the dates and different flowers emerge and the calming renewal of a gentle rain shower?

What if our kids are the ones to learn to cook, organize their space, do their laundry and help keep a well-run home?

What if they learn to stretch a dollar and live with less?

What if they learn to plan shopping trips and make meals at home?

What if they learn the difference between want and need?

What if they learn the value of eating together as a family and finding the good in sharing the small delights of every day?

What if they are the ones who place great value on our teachers and educational professionals, librarians, public servants and the previously invisible essential workers like truck drivers, grocers, cashiers, healthcare workers... just to name a few who are taking care of us right now while we are sheltered in place?

What if among these children a great leader emerges who had the benefit of a slower pace and simpler life to truly learn what really matters in life?

What if they are ahead?

¿Qué pasa si en lugar de estar detrás, están por delante?

¿Qué pasa si, en lugar de quedarse atrás, nuestros hijos están avanzados?

¿Qué pasa si tienen más empatía, disfrutan de la conexión familiar, pueden ser más creativos y divertirse, les encanta leer y expresarse por escrito?

¿Qué pasa si disfrutan de las cosas simples, como sus propios patios y balcones, sentados cerca de una ventana en la tranquilidad?

¿Qué pasa si notan las aves y las fechas y las diferentes flores emergen y la renovación calmante de una suave lluvia?

¿Qué pasa si nuestros hijos son los que aprenden a cocinar, organizar su espacio, lavar la ropa y ayudar a mantener un hogar bien administrado?

¿Qué pasa si aprenden a estirar un dólar y vivir con menos?

¿Qué pasa si aprenden a planificar viajes de compras y hacer comidas en casa?

¿Qué pasa si aprenden la diferencia entre querer y necesitar?

¿Qué pasa si aprenden el valor de comer juntos en familia y encontrar lo bueno en compartir las pequeñas delicias de cada día?

¿Qué pasa si ellos son los que le dan un gran valor a nuestros maestros y profesionales de la educación, bibliotecarios, servidores públicos y los trabajadores esenciales previamente invisibles como camioneros, tiendas de comestibles, cajeros, trabajadores de la salud ... solo por nombrar algunos que se ocupan de nosotros ahora mientras estamos protegidos en el lugar?

¿Qué pasa si entre estos niños surge un gran líder que tuvo el beneficio de un ritmo más lento y una vida más simple para aprender realmente lo que realmente importa en la vida?

¿Qué pasa si están por delante?
