Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am writing you today with a heavy heart - outraged, deeply saddened and frustrated by the murder of another innocent Black man, George Floyd.

However, I can’t begin to speak to the anger, sadness, fear, and sheer exhaustion felt by all of you who experience racism regularly, have been fighting it throughout your lives, and experience genuine fear for your children when they walk out the door. The recent events have reaffirmed the importance of the work that we do here at CACPCS, and must continue to do - ever so intentionally.

Earlier today, the CACPCS Board wrote you a letter outlining the actions we continue to be committed to taking, and will take, to integrate anti-racist work in all we do. In an effort to avoid redundancies, please refer to that email for further information.

So, what now? I don’t have all of the answers right now, but I do know that your children are watching these events unfold and have many thoughts, questions, and worries. With this in mind, the teachers will continue to make space for your children to express themselves and listen to one another in the coming weeks. As always, we ask that you reach out to your child’s teacher or Life Coach if he/she or you is in need of greater support during this time.

Please know that your children are valued and at CACPCS, Black lives matter.

Les escribo hoy con un corazon pesado - indignada, profundamente entristecida y frustrada por el asesinato de otro inocente hombre Negro, George Floyd.

Sin embargo, no puedo comenzar a hablar del enfadamiento, tristeza, y el puro agotamiento sentido por todos ustedes que experimentan racismo regularmente, los que han estado batallando todas sus vidas, y por los que experimentan un miedo genuino por sus hijos cada vez que salen de la casa.

Los eventos recientes han reafirmado la importancia del trabajo que hacemos aquí en CACPCS, y que debemos de continuar haciendo - cada vez más intencional. Temprano hoy, la Junta Ejecutiva de CACPCS les escribió una carta marcando las acciones a las cuales continuamos estando comprometidos en tomar, que tomaremos, para integrar un trabajo antirracista en todo lo que hacemos. En un esfuerzo de evitar redundancias, por favor refiérase a este mensaje para más información.

Entonces, que ahora? No tengo todas las respuestas ahora mismo, pero si se que sus hijos están mirando los eventos desarrollarse y tienen muchos pensamientos, preguntas, y preocupaciones. Con esto en mente, los maestros continuarán creando espacios para sus hijos durante las próximas semanas para que ellos se expresen y para escucharnos los unos a los otros. Como siempre, les pedimos que se comunique con los maestros de su hijo/a o con unos de los Consejeros de Vida si él/ella necesita mayor apoyo durante estos tiempos.

Por favor sepa que sus hijos son valorados en CACPCS, las vidas Negras importan.
