March 2018: Cenntential Celebration & Kolea Week
March is an exciting month here at Chiefess Kapi'olani, we are holding our school's Centennial Celebration- that's right CKES is turning 100! We are also having our annual Kolea Week filled with fun dress days and activities. Students who had 2 or less absences for the quarter will participate in movie day, we have CKES alumni coming to speak on career day and classes that met their quarter 3 positive behavior goal will participate in our Throwback Carnival! Check out the dress up days below and show your KOLEA PRIDE!
January 2018: New Year New Adventures!
2017 was full of fun and learning for our CKES students, in 2018 students will enjoy even more fun and learning when they...learn, grow and play by coming to school EVERYDAY! When students returned from winter break, they participated in back to school guidance and reviewed important school procedures and expectations (see slides below). In January, students will also be participating in bullying awareness and prevention lessons with School Resource Officer Masumura. A new incentive for the 3rd quarter will be a "No more than two means movie day for you!" incentive- all students who have 2 or less absences during the quarter will get to participate in MOVIE DAY!
December 2017: Future Viking Day
GO VIKS GO! Classes that met their POSITIVE BEHAVIOR GOAL for the 2nd quarter participated in our FUTURE VIKING DAY incentive! Our school was very fortunate to have staff and students from Hilo High Cheerleading, Girls Soccer, JROTC, Wrestling, & Acting run activity stations for our students! We also had awesome Hilo High alumni facilitate art (Circle of Life Hilo) and Volleyball activities. And can't forget about our school staff who gave our students an opportunity to learn more about robotics and boogie down with Go Noodle! A'ohe hana nui ke alu 'ia- No task is too big when done together!
November 2017: Kindergarten Parent Workshop
HOORAY FOR KINDERGARTEN! Making the transition to elementary school can have its challenges, communication between the school and parents is essential in supporting this transition. This month our school held our first kindergarten parent workshop. Parents were able to visit their child's classroom and experience the morning routine in the life of their kindergartner :) School staff shard helpful tips with parents about how to access school info (check out our SCHOOL APP!), health & wellness, and the importance of attendance! Each family also received a FUN children's book to take home and read with their child.
If you weren't able to make it this day, you can check out the slides below to see the information that was shared...
October 2017: Tsunami Awareness
Did you know that Chiefess Kapi'olani is located in the tsunami evacuation zone? To help students, staff and families be prepared in the event of a local tsunami, we conduct an earthquake and tsunami evacuation drill each school year. Thank you to the Hawaii County Police for assisting with the drill and to our community neighbors who were patient and helped keep our roads safe for our students during the drill. Students learned about tsunamis from our friend Mr. Crab, check out the video below to see what they learned...
September 2017: Water Play Day
It is now almost the end of the first quarter! To celebrate the accomplishments of our classes, our school held our 1st Quarter Incentive on Friday 9/29! All classes that met their positive behavior goal participated in WATER PLAY! Our AWESOME Hawai'i County Fire Department cooled off the students with not one but TWO fire trucks. Students played water balloon relays and enjoyed a yummy treat! Congratulations to all the classes that met their 1st quarter goal and continue to learn, grow and play in school everyday! #KOLEAPRIDE
August 2017: Back to School
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! At Chiefess Kapi'olani Elementary School, we welcomed students back on the first day of school with a #KOLEAPRIDE assembly. Students and staff alike were excited to be back in school and ready for another year of learning!
