Welcome back to school and the start of the 2018-19 school year! Students and staff were invited to a 'Back to School' assembly to kick off the first day of school. September is ATTENDANCE AWARENESS month! Chronic absenteeism is defined by the Hawai'i Department of Education as being absent 10 or more days in a school year. Students who are chronically absent may be impacted in both their academic and social/emotional learning. Encourage your child to come to school ON TIME, EVERYDAY! October is BULLYING PREVENTION month. Our school participated in UNITY DAY to show our support of safe, respectful and inclusive learning environments for all! Students in grades 4-6 had the opportunity to sign wave with Hawaii Police Department Community Policing Officers. Remember to CHOOSE KINDNESS!
Chiefess Kapi'olani students are getting COLLEGE & CAREER ready by learning about different careers and how they relate to our GENERAL LEARNER OUTCOMES. Each month we will have a KOLEA COMMUNITY PERSON & STAFF PERSON have a career "talk story" with our students during lunch! Mahalo to CKES alumni Fire Captain Patrick Springer and our very own Kumu K for sharing with our students about your careers!
Under the big top at CKES! Chiefess Kapi'olani students participated in a school carnival for their quarter 2 incentive. Classes that met their Positive Behavior Support goal for the 2nd quarter got a chance to play games like bottle pick-up, penny toss, ring toss, lawn bowling and more! Students also got to "take aim" and SPLASH some of their favorite staff members!
Welcome back to school (AGAIN)! We hope everyone had an awesome winter break and we know that everyone is excited to be back in school and ready to learn! The 3rd quarter kicked off with bullying awareness lessons with School Resource Officer Matsumura for the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th graders.
Be a HERO- Here, Everyday, Ready and On-time! Positive student attendance is celebrated at CKES with a quarterly "No More Than Two" attendance incentive. Students who have two or less absences each quarter have an opportunity to participate in an EXCITING activity. For quarter 2, students were able to choose from activities such as- art (duct tape crafts), music (straw flutes), science (Jell-o Play doh), dance (Zumba), wellness (healthy snacks), and physical fitness activities.
GO KOLEA GO! March was an exciting month for our CKES students with KOLEA WEEK dress up days and our end of quarter incentive SPORTS DAY. Students got to share their voice and vote for their desired KOLEA WEEK dress up days and were able to select their sport of choice for our SPORTS DAY incentive. MAHALO to Hilo High Cheer, Football, and Wrestling AND University of Hawai'i Hilo Mens & Women's soccer and Women's softball along with our very staff and community partners for creating a rewarding and exciting SPORTS DAY incentive for our students!
CCCR stands for COLLEGE, CAREER, & COMMUNITY readiness. At Chiefess Kapi'olani one of our goals is to provide opportunities for our students to explore the many career possibilities in our community! Thank you to all of our AWESOME presenters who participated in our school's CAREER PATHWAYS FAIR! Students and their families got to learn first hand from our community partners about exciting careers they can aspire to! Mahalo TSA, Island Wide Trucking, CARSS, Hawai'i Community FCU, UHH, Hilo Medical Center, Cafe 100, Hawaii Air National Guard, DLNR, Creative Arts Hawai'i, Hawaii Gas, Simply 4 Health, Richardson's Ocean Center, & the Hawai'i County Fire Department for support our students to be CCC READY!
