About the Author

Karen Finnegan

Karen Finnegan, whose blended family consists of seven teenage children of all gender identities and abilities, understands how difficult it can be to raise kids in a complicated world. Her book, “Jolene, the Disability Awareness Chicken” has been lovingly received by families and groups where teaching children about accepting others - and most especially themselves - has become a priority.

Karen is a graduate of Siena College, Albany where she received a dual degree in English and Fine Arts. Her life's work has always been geared towards helping others and she has held positions with Meals on Wheels, The American Cancer Society and The Alzheimer's Association, Hudson Valley Chapter. Karen has served on the Board of Directors for Evergreen Minds, an organization that organizes mindful outdoor experiences that are intergenerational and inclusive.

She currently serves on the board of Stonykill Farm Environmental Center and Taconic Resources for Independence.

In addition to writing you can hear Karen every Thursday morning from 7:45-8:45 where she spends time co-hosting the "Miller in the Morning" show on 92.9 WBPM.

Karen lives in the Hudson Valley with her husband Kevin, three dogs, six chickens, and multiple human children.
