What Families are Saying about Summer Scholars:

"Love summer scholars! I see improvements in reading and writing!"  Parent of 1st & 3rd grader

"Thank you so much for offering such an amazing program. My daughter enjoyed going! She had nothing but wonderful things to say about both of her teachers, Ms. Polkowski and Ms. Allen! I loved that the teachers not only made it fun, but also helped her maintain critical skills and prevented the summer slide." Parent of 3rd grader

"This has been fun for my kids !" Parent of 3rd & 5th grader

Program Overview

The Chester School District offers a program in the summer for remediation of studies for students in grades K-8.

Our program covers basic reading, writing and mathematic skills respective to each grade level and is based on The New Jersey Student Learning Standards and district curriculum. Students participate in both small group and individualized instruction with a member of the Chester faculty.

What is Summer Scholars?

The Summer Scholars Program offers your child the opportunity to practice and strengthen their skills in English Language Arts (ELA) and/or Math.  Working with our own Chester School District teachers, your child will be able to practice the skills that may have challenged him/her during the school year and ensure that they are even better prepared for success in the fall of 2024 when they enter the next grade level.

There is no cost to participate in the program.  Students are recommended for Summer Scholars based on parent request, teacher recommendation and/or participation in our Dickerson and Bragg CAAP & Title 1 Programs (current and past participation).

The 2024 Summer Scholars program runs Mondays through Thursdays from 9AM – 12PM beginning Monday, July 8th and ending Thursday, August 8th. Classes will be held at Bragg School and are provided for your child by the Board of Education at no cost.

English Language Arts (ELA) and Math sessions will be scheduled to occur from 9am - 10:30am and 10:30am - 12:00pm.  Based on the skill recommendations, your child may attend one or both sessions.  Confirmation and class scheduling will be provided via confirmation letters that will be mailed home as soon as the registration process is completed.

We expect the students to be able to attend the program on the majority of the scheduled days so please try and schedule time off accordingly, if possible.  Please note there will be no busing with our Summer Scholars Program, and parents are responsible for transporting their child to and from school.
